What are the must add suspension pieces I need to add to my 86 coupe. Building it pretty much strictly for the drag strip. Gonna have a big block up front, probably some spray. Shouldn't weigh a whole lot its gonna be pretty much a drivetrain with seats. Obviously sub frame connectors, upper and lower control arms? Should I go with drag springs and shocks? Ill be running a 275 dr on the back and I need her to hook up. So lets here it. Keep in mind there is a budget to this project I don't wanna spend a fortune on it.

For cheap you can get some Lakewood 90/10's and 50/50's for shocks and struts. 4 banger springs in the front and stock springs in the rear. SSM lift bars and adjustable uppers, Subframe connectors and battle boxes. 275 radial's are big now. It shouldn't be to hard to get some advice from other racers that run those tires. I have heard good things about the new Goodyear radials. I have seen many of the local racers on them.

So you would go adjustable uppers instead of just stationary?

The Lakewood 90/10 and 50/50's are what I run and they work good. The subframe connectors and welded torque boxes are a must. I would suggest UPR adjustable upper and lowers, I tried the SSM lift bars and they didn't work for me. I would also recommend an anti-roll bar. :yes1:

Pretty simple.upr pro kit on the rear and the full tube frontend with coilovers.you need to invest in some good 10 way adjustable struts and shocks.bbf is alot of weight and its gonna make the car front heavy.hooking this up with a full slick will be a small task but doing it with a radial ain't gonna happen with ssm lowers and lakewood shocks.sorry but it's not gonna be cheap.

Well I was going for the "cheap" route. The lift bars or lakewood lower will change the instant center of the car. It really depends on what kinda 60' times and $$ your willing to spend. I wanted to try the Jegster upper control arm relocation kit. Almost everybody I talked to said it wouldn't work, etc, but then they have the baseline setup on cars that is basically the same principle. Its up to you Jeff. I would try it a couple different ways and see what works for your car. If your going to be on N20 then you can leave on motor and spray 30-60ft out and your suspension won't take as much of a shock. Radials and shock don't go together.

I could hook you up with some adj. uppers & lowers. Then you need some good adj. shocks, QA1's work good, and an anti roll bar. You can get by with the stock k and some 90/10's but some QA1's up front would really help also. The more adjustability you have the easier it is to get the car to hook.

jeff not to be a party pooper, but why use a radial for pinks I would at least use a et street and make sure it hooks. The radials are great but are going to require more tuning and practice = only 4 months to build test and dial in.

The main reason is I have a brand new set of 275 dr's and no slicks. But your right it might be smarter to go that route if I could find a deal on some slicks.

I figured it was for driveability. I can't stand driving on my slicks, well racing on slicks. If you have just the slightest cross wind its all over the track.

I understand now, It is going to be hard to get a BB making good power to hook on 275's. are yours 50's or 60's? the worse part about a BB in a fox is it makes it nose heavy. When you buy front springs tell them what you are doing, you will need a heaver spring than normal.

adjustable uppers and lowers, you MIGHT be able tog et by with just double adj uppers, make sure you pinion angle is set. if youd like when the car gets done, id be more than glad to come help set it up at the racetrack,,,,,id go ahead an do a slick. and throw some strange 10 ways on it. 10inch wheels in the back on a 28x10 slick what converter and cam are you gonna run?? and dont forget the nitrous 200-250 FTW:thumbsup1:

I don't make an anti roll bar yet, cobra 4. I'll be working on that soon though. Personally I like DR's to slicks. Yes, they are harder to get to hook. But if you have the right suspension and chassis set up it's not that hard. I mean there are guy's running 5.0's in the 1/8 on a 275/60. That's making a lil over 1000 rwhp or more depending on the weight of the car. But, that can't be done on a small budget though. I think with some adjustable suspension ( c. arms & shocks), frame connectors, and a cage, you'll be able to hook decently and be satisfied with the car. On another note, I know there's not a lotta room in the engine compartment. But the farther back and down low as possible you can move the engine will really help with traction issues. That means a motor plate or moving the motor mounts. Then you get into header issues also. Hope this helps ya out.

Well that is the other reason. I feel more comfortable going down the track on a set of DR's. Plus I don't really wanna deal with swapping out the wheels everytime I wanan ride out to the local cruise night or something.
