Has anyone in here ever tuned with Megasqirt. I have been eyeing a Megasquirt system for Ford engines built by Wilson Racing. I want to know pros and cons of using it. I tried the chip thing but it isn't working out for me.

I have a Moates F3. A friend on a different forum tried to burn it for me. I just want to be able to run low impedance 55# injectors with my LA3 computer.

This is what I have:

F3 Ford Memory Adapter
This device is a J3 chip module for EEC-IV and EEC-V. It should work with all applications, including Turbo EEC-IV. Supports 1,2,4 bank EEC systems. Comes with memory chip already installed. Just use the BURN1+F2A to reprogram it. Also has provisions for an external switch (single wire solder on and switch to chassis ground) for selecting between 2 separate programs.

My computer and engine is from a 1987 ford thunderbird turbocoupe. My computer works with 36#/hr low impedance injectors from the factory. I just wanted them upgraded to 55's ( which I bought)because my turbo is a Holset from a dodge 5.9 and the afr's got real lean at 14.8 around 4,000 rpm. I also use a VAM instead of a MAF. The guy who tried to help me out has a car with a similar setup but he runs 72#/hr injectors and has a MAF conversion. The software was from moates as well. I think he had an adapter and burner for ford eec-iv. I'm not real good at the computer tuning thing and I've never done it before. I have read up on it but it confuses the heck out of me. If I can't get this chip to work for Me I may go with an alternate method and buy the Megasquirt.

You can use the Trick Flow 55#s and recal the vam by moving the spring on the inside. I had a T/C with this setup and bigger t3 and it ran great.

If he is burning a chip, he should be able to change the injector slopes for the bigger injectors. The problem I have seen out of the chip route is there is no real time datalogging or if your not on a dyno for A/F or have a wideband installed in the car then its kinda hit and miss. I like the quarterhorse/TwEECer method a little better then the chip until it right then burn a chip and leave it alone. If you make changes then pull the QH/TwEECer back out and do it all over agian. I leave my TwEECer installed and my buddy leaves his QH installed at all times. It a little more $$ but its a lot nice when you have an issue or want to change something in the tune.
