So I was at walmart last night and I saw a green LX sitting at the end of the lot for sale. Out of habit I rolled over to take a look at it. It looked BONE stock. Paint was pretty dead looking, it was gone off the front bumper in the places the usually chip. The good thing was it was a five speed. The interior looked good but it had seat covers so I assume they were ripped. I called the number and left a message. Well the guy calls me back today. Car has 130,000 miles on it. It has a trans out of a 96, engine was rebuilt but basically to stock. Ex florida highway patrol car, and thats about it. He wanted 5,000 for it. I was thinking 1500-3000 max. It it worth anywhere near to five?

i'll tell you its not worth 5,000! prob expected that cuz its an x cop car. for collectors that means alot. for the average stang guy means little to value, just a coolness factor.

Actually SSP cars are bringing pretty good money, more then a civilian coupe in the same condition. Did it have a tan interior?
Without seeing the car, I would say a 87 FHP in good condition would bring 3-5 G's easy on ebay. Go over to www.sspmustang.org and do some research on the SSP's. They are becoming highly sought after.

Yeah I've done my research on them before my 91 is a SSP coupe. Yeah it's teal with tan interior.

thats kinda what i said. for a collector of specialty type stang its worth more. but to your typical race, modify and drive stang guy it doesn't really offer much more to make the increase in price worth it.

I agree, if you going to mod it, then the value of it being an SSP goes away. If your going to build a race/street car, then you might as well find a 4 cyl coupe. Even the 4 cyl coupes are starting to bring good money. Coupes are getting harder to find. Remember that the last coupe made was 15 years ago.
The owner of the FHP needs to put it for sale on one of the SSP boards, he would get more for it. Because one of the guys would restore it back to the way it was in 87 patrolling the roads of FL.

The SSP's usually do fetch a little more dough. $5500 was the original asking price on mine in whupped condition with 160,000 on it. I dickered pretty hard and took it home for $3000. See what he'll take and if he doesn't want to agree to your terms tell him to call if he changes his mind. Nothing wrong with puttiong the decision in his lap instead of yours...

Yeah he's got my number I told him that was more than I was looking to put into one. Im not really looking for one but I would like to have a clean unmolested trunk car to put a few basic, basic bolt on's onto and drive. Plus in another ten years a stock fox is pretty much gonna be a thing of the past if they make it that long.

Just hope he isn't lurking on the SEFB site to listen in on your strategizing! :)
To an engine buff it might bring "x" dollars...if it's needing interior work, then it could be a totally different figure, as in a paint/body man. Like the sayin' goes, "It's worth what you'll pay for it".

No it's pretty straight. Has one little dent in the door where it looks like the wind blew the door open too far. It would have to be painted to make it a nice car though.

No, between the darkness and the dirty windows I couldn't really see in enough to tell.
