First question would be what are you looking for in teh way of performance gains?? Is the car a DD or weekend warrior?

I would say go with the 3.73's. I think when I'm driving on the HWY at around 60-65MPH I'm usually around 2500 RPM (give or take a little) and my car is a 5 speed.

I had a buddy that bought the 3.55's, and didnt care for them and went to a 3.73's he like those, but wound up going with the 4.10 or 4.11 whatever it was.

Everyone has their own opinions on the matter, but every mustang I've owned, even the daily drivers, I've put 3.73's in them. Its just a fun gear that allows decent hwy driving and takes kindly to the weekend warrior aspect.

Depends mainly I guess on what you want it for I guess. I'm sure others will chim in with their own opinions.

I too, had a friend go with 3.55 in a supercharged car and wished he had gone 3.73. I have always gone 3.73 or 4.10. just my :twocents:

My brother 89hatch went with 3.55 and he said he wouldve liked to have gone with 3.73. I have the 3.54 with a world class and its about perfect for me.

go ahead with the 3.73s......there will be a decent difference in the lower gears, and actually, VERY little difference between the 55s and 73s at highway speeds in overdrive.

abcstyers, dont mean to hi-jack your thread i just thought for comparison, can someone tell me what RPM's a 4.11 gear does on the highway running aroun 60 MPH?

3.73 seems like the best street/strip gear. 4.10 are better for 1/4 mile than highway. Especially for a n/a or supercharged engine. Turbo engines seem better with ~3.55 or 3.27 due to load.

I have 3:73's in my car and drove it from VA to Mustang Week 09. Running 75ish all the way. The rpm's were around 2500 +/- I like the gear alot. It gives me great out of the hole acceleration and it does ok at highway speeds. I have an AOD tranny with an external cooler so heat was not an issue for me.

3.73's are a good all around setup. Seems like with 26" tall tires rpms were about 2000 at 60 with a 5spd.

With 4.10's and the AOD, I'm at 2,400 rpm's at 70 mph, and just under 2,900 at 80 mph. Running a 245/45/17 tire.

I completly forgot to say its a 5-speed and its more a DD than weekend warior/track car. My last car was a 3.55 car, but i've never driven a car with 3.73. i guess thats what ill be doin though, i wanna be a little quicker for MW2010
