I'm in the middle of replacing my trans. I cut the exhaust out since the h-pipe and cat back were welded. I'm wanting to go with new exhaust and i'm tossed up between shortys and long tubes. I have edelbrock rpm heads and edelbrock upper & lower intake performer 2 And some more mods. I had the Mac 1 5/8 longtubes on my old gt with a mostly stock engine and liked them. Shorties tuned or untuned, or longtubes? what ya think. I know I'm going with mac offroad h and original flow master american thunders.

Shorties are for where stock exhaust will bolt up and for applications where lontubes won't fit. Longtubes make torque and torque=fun.

Not trying to take over the thread but back when I had the 92' 5.0, someone recommended the BBK 1-3/4" longtubes with the x pipe over the 1-5/8". Is there an advantage of one over the other?

I'm running the Mac longtubes, Mac H, and Spintechs w/dumps. I like the setup, no problems. Changing from shorties to l/ts really opened my car up!

It's a little surprising that this turned out so one-sided. I've read that long tubes are better at producing low-end torque than the shorties, but when would it be better to have shorties which I've read allow the engine to rev quicker than long tubes? Would that be for turbo / supercharged applications?

1 3/4 is too large for a stock based engine. 1 5/8" Headers can go real fast. No need for the bigger headers with a bolt on car.

BBK will clear the AOD.

BBK'S fit both auto and manual. Mac's have different header for each application. If you buy used, make sure they fit your transmission. I have a set of auto trans Mac's. PM me or call 919-542-0417 if interested. I am in Pittsboro NC near Raleigh.
Merry Christmas,
