What do I need to check if my car does not idle higher during cold starts? Does it mean the idle air control valve is bad or is there something else that needs attention. When I start the car cold it idles at the regular idle speed and tries to die unless I hold the gas a little while or start to drive.

Pull the Air intake temp sensor out and clean it off with some carb cleaner.
Its located in the #5 intake runner.

It could also be the ECT. It will default to 150 degrees and the PCM thinks the vehicle is already warmed and won't go into fast idle. Pull codes and see if anything sticks out. If the ACT doesn't fix it, remove the wiring from the ECT and check the resistance with an ohm meter. It could be a faulty ECT.

What should the resistance be?
