A friend of mine was in a VERY bad motorcycle accident and isn't doing so well. He was wearing all of his safety equipment, but still was seriously injured. He is in ICU and from 1-100 he is in the 3% tile. He was not speeding and a s10 tried to turn left and pulled out infront of Shane, he then hit the front of the truck and was thrown through the air, when he landed it was basically face first into the windshield of the truck. The woman who saw the wreck said he flew up in the air about 20 feet. The shield on his helmet shattered. From the neck down he looks fine, but from the neck up he doesn't. He has a broken nose, shattered eye socket, and a bunch of stiches all over his face esp to fix his chin. Shane can really use everyones prayers at this time
Shane is the one in the grey shirt

Thanks everyone! Your prayers are working!!! I just got back from the hospital a little while ago. There is a little machine that is hooked to his brain to measure the damage and pressure to the brain....it fell out sometime last night and took most of the day to get back in today. They had drilled a hole in his scull to releave the pressure. As of this evening the blood that was surrounding his brain is gone and the fluids that were causing all the pressure is being soaked up by his body so that is great news!! He also had a clot the size of a tennis ball in his brain that has now almost disapeared. Thanks for all the prayers! They are working wonders!!!!

Thanks everyone for your prayers!! Well I didn't get a chance to get up to the hospital tonight or hear how he did today but as of yesterday he had surgery to remove the blood clot and when he came out of surgery he wasn't doing to well. He had dropped to 1%. After the day progressed the doctors decided to remove the sensor that was measuring the pressure to the brain (because they had a hard time keeping it in anyway) and now he is at a 23% things are definately looking up, but he still is not out of the clear. It has now been 1 week and 1 day and he is still fighting!!!

Ok....so they put the sensor back in and he has 23% pressure. I dont really know much about that kind of stuff but what I was told is it is supposed to be between 7-14% so he is having too much pressure but other than that he is basically staying the same no worse no better :sad1:

Since you first posted (1 month ago), is there an update or progress report? Many times these sort of accidents take a long time to recoveer from. Was there ever any hint from the doctors as to what THEY thought as to WHEN he'd be stable?
Heiny4U2Tame

Sorry I haven't updated... he is stable, out of ICU and opening his right eye a little. He is also much more responsive, but is still in a coma.

No he doesn't have any kids. I don't remember the exact date but he is supposed to be getting married soon.
Bones and I were talking about trying to get a car show/ cruise in together for all makes and models sometime soon before it gets too cold.

OK so I know I haven't exactly kept everyone updated like I said but anyway from where I left off....
Since Shane's accident almost a year ago now, he has had his ups and downs. It wasn't long after his wreck where he was breathing on his own and could tell when people were in the room with him (they would tell him if he could understand and knew who was talking to him to squeeze their hand and he would). He was moved from the hospital to a nursing home in Hendersonville where he seemed to do fine but eventually ended up with a bed sore. The bed sore ended up getting about as big as a vollyball so they did surgery and had to do surgery on something else as well. He had other issues between then and now but I can't remember all of them. Anyway the reason I'm typing this now is he isn't doing good now. Thursday night I got a message that he had an infection on his brain and was only taking 3 deep breaths a minute and wasn't expected to make it more than 2 days. Well as I was sitting at the cruise today I got a phone call about how his heart rate was at like 40 and that he was in a lot of pain. He was given a lot of morphine but he was still in so much pain that he was thrusting around the bed and crying :sad1:, about 10 mins after getting off the phone I got a text that he had lost his reflexes, unable to open his eyes, couldn't cough and there was no response out of him. Please keep Shane, his family, fiance and friends in your prayers. We all know that the best thing for him right now is for the pain to stop and we all understand what that means but it's still hard. The family has already made funeral arrangements.
