Yes, Comp cams are good cams. Just make sure, if using a OTS cam, to pick one good for your combo.

Im a big fan of Comps extreme series cams, and use them in 99% of my builds. They have a fast ramp profile, and they DO make **** good power, with the tradeoff being a little bit of valvetrain noise.
Ive heard some guys talking about Comp having some QC issues- personally, I had a pushrod issue on one engine- wearing real fast and caught it on the dyno, and one hyd. roller lifter that was assembled with no plunger spring. Both issues were corrected with NO hassles or questions!
Crower is another good name, as well as Isky, Lunati, etc.... once you find the correct cam for your application, deciding between manufacturers is honestly like splitting hairs.......just pick a known good grind and go with it...youll be fine!

I'm no expert, but I've used them in almost every engine I've built and had great success. Most of the time, their shelf stuff works well and makes good power.

I'm running a Comp Cam in the 87 and love it!!! Best thing to do is get with one of the shops that are sponsors/vendors on here and discuss what your combo is/or going to be, and one of them can help you select with cam will be the best bang for buck for ya.:thumbsup1:
Greg at XSR, help out alot as I was staying Speed Destiny so had to found a cam that would give me a good power band, but not give the SD Computer a fit..LOL

I know I've asked you before....but are you running the 270 or 264HR grind? Trying to wrap up my engine plans for next year and not quite decided on the cam to use while still in SD. But the transmission is going to be redone before any engine work................:yes1:

As a salesman in the speed parts world I would recommend calling Comp direct for assistance in the choice. Then contact a local dealer/installer for pricing.
Comp has a number just for that
CAM HELP line: 800-999-0853 their in Memphis so it is central time zone.
Expect to be on hold for a while.
I have heard some goons complaining that Comp is a cheap cam and their lobes wear out easily. These complaints are crap because almost all roller cam billets come from the same source. Then each cam company simply grinds to their specs. Comp is a good cam I would use myself.
