Got a head start on replacing the heater core before work today.I plan on fighting with this all weekend. It took me 2 hours just to pull the dash apart and out. I scored a dash cluster with a 140 speedo and 7000 rpm tach that I'll put in while I have it apart

Lol I was pretty amazed myself! I got some pointers from my buddy up north who has done his frequently lol. So he told me how to do it.
Ya basically end up taking the core out from UNDER the dash on the passenger side. Remove the upper defrost vent (bottom of windshield), to uncover a few bolts that hold the dash. on the side the dash there is one bolt, remove it. I'm not sure how many others there are, can't remember, but ya just remove just enough so ya pull the dash out about 4,5 inches. Enough working room. Then ya remove the blower motor, from the bottom, off the side of the heater box. Then ya snake your hand up top, to remove the 4 bolts for the heater core cover on the top. it will be glued on, so once ya take the cover bolts off, just tug at it a little bit it will budge. Then just carefully snake it outta there. and Do the same when ya put the new one in. Being carefull not to crush, or bed the heater core pipes.
Its much easier if your smaller, so ya can get your hands up in there easier. It's tight, but it beats taking the dash out!
let me know if ya have any questions!

Take the passenger seat out and it will make it easier to lay on your back and you can do what MustangCRZY302 said above.

kewl im going to try to do it without removing the dash and if u dynamat you might consider doing the roof it will make a big diff in the inside temps ,i did my floor from front to rear and the roof and it helps a lot keeping it cool inside , i still have to do the doors when i get new door panels but well worth the investment :thumbsup1:

I plan on eventually doing the roof and the doors to. the roof will happen when I replace the headliner as it has cig burn in it and has a slight smoke smell (previous owner smoker) and the doors will get it when I replace dead door locks and bad handle on passenger side door. that probably wont happen until next year though. main concern is heater and then gotta alot of engine junk since everything that holds fluid leaks (except gas tank) so far.

I now have heat.:happydance:It really wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.It took a total of 9 hours. The biggest proplem I had was the POS speedo cable I got from Advance. The end broke off when I tried to hook it up to the speedometer.I just lubed up the orignal one and put it in and it works great.

hey did you see how the temp cable is hooked up? mine doesnt work right so I think it needs to be replaced at the same time.Try replacing the sending unit first. The back of the gauge cluster looks like a big circut board. It has 2 plugs with a lot of wires that go into it.

when I turn the knob to hot it springs back to the strait up position. when I turn it to cold it will make a click noise one time and stay.
