lots more sanding, all the way up to like 2000 and it should be a mirror finish:yes1:

your best bet is get it powdercoated, im sure nastnotchback1 or stable would do a great job for you

I would continue to polish it out to a mirror shine and then clear it.

any specific clear i should use

I've never found a clear (including ZOOPS) that keeps the shine of a highly polished part.

On a side note personally I wouldn't sand past 360 grit sandpaper, then I'd go with Tripoli, followed by White Rouge.
And if you'd like to see pics of what I'm talking about I'd be more than happy to post some for you?

There is no clear on any of these parts, all the clears I've tried seem to have a slight hint of yellow in them and that seems to dull the shine IMO.
I've re polished some of the parts twice in the last 10 yrs that took about hr each time to do.
