Started this about a month ago. A friend gave me a 87 coupe. Found a 96 GT wrecked for $500....Sooooo here i go. Gutted the couple and the 96. Cleaned the coupe and modded the firewall for the install. Note the third bearing for the steering and the HVAC holes. Made a set of axles and modded the rear brake brackets. Now the axle is the same size as a fox. Fuel tank and lines are in. Gonna try in put the k member, engine and trans in friday. gonna put the 600 miles of harness (LOL) in the A.M. Check out the tail light i made in the pic with the tire..And yes thats a 315/35/17...gonna have to go with a 305/35/17. Anyway i will keep yall posted to see what ya think.

I am installing the drive line, dash, fuel system, exhaust and harness from the 96. The front seat are from a 07 mustang with power on both sides (frames are from a 96 & 97).
The dash was the first thing i did but it is out right now. Even using the heater box from the 96.

Here are some pics of the rear axle. Fox axles welded the center and turned to fit the 96 rotors then redrilled to 5 lug. Used the stock rear brackets but cut then to fit over the axle and swapped sides. Bolted to all up and the rotor is dead center.....Cost...some time thinking about it and at the lathe.

The K member is ready to install. All new poly bushing and boots. 96 k member with 90 lower control arms and global west control arm bushing. You have to make the rear spacers. The ones in the kit dont work!!!$210 for A-arm bushing that you have to make fit? 96 rack that i cut 1 inch off each side for the tierods. 96 spindles and brakes. Hoping to upgrade to cobra brakes on all corners soon.

Here is a better pic of the lights close to a stock set. the new set is (red)=stop, turn and running lights the (white one in the back-up light now)....Yes i cut 7 inches out of the center and glued them back together.

so what are yuor palns for the extra space at the plate area

fastoleman

so what are yuor palns for the extra space at the plate area

Plate area? If you mean the rear of the A-arm. I made some new spacers out of ploy to put i there. Looks just like the ones that they made. The ones in the kit are well one is real thin and the other is fat. I had to make one 1/2" and one 3/4" to take the place of the kit ones. If you look at the 2 pics of the bushing...i made the one in the first pic and they made the other ones.

Oh you mean the tag at the back......gonna make a filler plate to go across flush with the outside of the lights and make a motorized tag to mount between to bumper and gas tank. car running tag down...car off tag hidden...

OK here is the deal. I found a 86 GT front bumper for $125. NOTE: I love the 85 86 nose. A headlight kit is $100 or more. What do you guys think about a 86 nose on a 87 with the sn95 dash and 4.6? Just looking alittle input here from you guys.
Thanks Terry

There are a lot of guys on here that are partial to the four eyed look. kinda would be cool to "go the other way" for once as it seems most of the older 4 eyes end up with the 87-93 fronts.

was wondering where you had been this week and how the build was coming. gonna make it out to the show?

Four -eyed coupes are cool. the tail lights and the quarter windows are really the only give aways on the outside. I think it would be very unique.

Been doing body work.....long and boring......Well its running and all the drive line is in. All the wiring is in. Still have to fig out the brakes....really gonna need them LOL. Had to cut the cross member mounting brackets out of the 96 to weld in the 87,so the trans sits right now. Also cut out the e-brake cable bracket so now i can use the 96 cables. Going to work on the brakes today and some more body work :sad1:
What show are you talking about? I want to take it to FASTLANES open house on OCT 10....

Yeah i like the 4 eyed too. If i use that nose i will make a set of SVO/93 COBRA taillights. I will just have to rewire the brake light so the turn and brake are separate. No biggie.

Just some updated pics. One of the vert trunk springs installed. Checkout the new style hood release....nothing on the hood now, no hook or spring. This would work great on a fiberglass hood. The car is in primer now and the blocking has started...did i say that i hate blocking!!!!!!

Just read through the whole thread again and guess I missed it, what are you gonna do with the rear seat? I also noticed you decided to go ahead with the 87 nose. How is the custom knight rider liscence plate thingy coming along? Noticed you used the 96 cabin light which i thought was a nice touch. Window tint in the future? how bout tunes? sorry for all the q's. love how this one turned out. really thinking hard about the whole hood latch thing now that ive seen it on yours.

(1) going to do a custom rear seat delete.
(2) yeah, went with what i had....just to keep down on cost. I like the 87-93 nose too.
(3) I'm using the short lights that i made. Added a filler plate. I will post a pic of it later.
(4) Yep , also used the 96 and up sun visors and seat belts...Small modding to get them to work.
(5) not sure on the tint......its up in the air right now. If i do it will only be 35%
(6) nothing super load...nice head unit with 2 sets of components and a 10" sub on a 300 watt amp..

Thank you for your compliments and keeping up with my build.
I can add some close up pics of the hood latch if you like.
You can use your stock cable with the latch. You only have to cut the nose a small amount to make it work. I like it, Looks very clean to me.

(1)The filler is made of 1/4" Plexiglas painted on the backside. It is held in place by the tag bolts and under the taillights. The filler has weather stripping on the back to seal it to the body. I did it this way so if i ever want to go back to stock light all i have to do is remove the lights and tag and put in the stock lights.

Kool then....I am a SEFB....i love the fact that it all fox bodies. They are the Hot rods of my teen age years. I can remember a friend of mine (Tim) his mom got a 1979 5.0 stick...We would take that pony on the back 40 and have a blast....I was hooked and have been ever since. In my life i have had over 25 fox bodies...not all V8's..lol even had a 84 with a inline 6....it was weaker than water but she still had that blue oval on the front..

Thanks Loe....sent him a PM.

Here are the pics of what i had to cut. I could not send them in a PM. Snag you a latch for a junk yard. then remove the stuff under the hood and bolt it up and adjust it.The rivets are the ones ford but there..I think on the 90 and up the rivet on the drivers side may be a little closer to center due to the air bag sensor...could be wrong on that...Just trim the nose cover and frame so the latch can go down into it when the hood is closed.Maybe 30 minutes tops with a die grinder.....have fun and a steady hand...hehe

Wow. I am blown away by your skills. What do you do for a living? I know you said you were laid off. Whatever it is, it must take a lot of drive and attention to detail. BTW, I know you said you were trying to keep it to $3k.....how did that work out?

I assume the seats and whatnot came from a local JY? What did they run you if you don't mind me asking? They look a hell of a lot better than almost anything else I have seen in a fox. I definitely want to rock some in my DD!

Your car and this thread are a great inspiration to the rest of us. Keep it up!

I am a mechanic by trade, I take great pride in my work. I look at it this way...if you put 110% into it it will be perfect to you!! And this is what its about...you and your ride...i think anyone can do what i have with planning and will...

3K...well as i sets right now i am a little over. $3178.12....the leather seat covers put me over. After i saw them i couldn't walk away with out them...

Well yes and no.....i saw them on ebay...but yes they where at a yard about 30 minutes from me. On ebay for $125 each plus shipping. Had a phone number on the listing so i call and offered him $200 for the pair and i pick them up. He took my offer. Found the seat covers on craigslist for $200...A friend has a 2008 and his wife burned a hole in the back seat. We split the cost and he got the back covers. The seats are the easiest seat to mod that i have ever done. You can take the seat down to the frame in a 10 minutes..Right now i have $300 in them...i dyed the plastic.really want to replace it with the right color.

Thanks for the kind words rannalf

Ok i have been driving the car for over a week now with not one problem. Our test and tune night is Thursday....So if it dont rain i will post some times. It runs kinda strong...Love the sound of the mod motor and turns alot of heads...Put in a show and shine last weekend. People showed alot of interest in it. Alot of double takes!!! Is that a V6??? LOL. People ask why is there so much room from the radiator to the timing cover....I smile and say...Its missing the supercharger...hehe...
Here are some pics of the Guys after the show and shine....Playing around with photoshop...not that good at it right now...only had it a couple of weeks..

First off your ride is sweet and very well done all the way around great job, lots of one off ideas that I have not seen done any other mod swaps projects yet.

Do you have info on how the guy with the Silver Black 5.0 cut the LX grill out to make it look like that because that is sharpe. And it would allow alot more air flow across the radiator and into the engine bay.
Thanks ahead of time if you can provide some info.

Thanks SFC,
It was easy....it is a 99-04 grill delete...had to trim the ends and that was it. It fits the grill opening perfect.Riveted the horse bracket in and that was it. I can get you some close up pics if you like. It is CRAZY how many parts will cross over on 79-04 mustangs. Sometimes its just hard to get up the nerve to cut.....lol

Well i used the rear lights from a semi trailer. Cut them to fit the lens of the fox then mounted them in place.I have around $110 in the led's.Keep in mind that i dont have the amber turns,So you would have to buy the led's for your turn.$16-$20 each. I still have the do the back up lights.I got the sequencers off ebay for $50 and they work perfect for my light set up.Also they do make the amber sequencer already made. They have the arrow in them. You may have seen one on the side of a big rig trailer.

I'm gonna do that my man. The doors are really a pain for the dash swap to keep the flow into the rest of the inside. Here is a pic of the handle mount. i cut some dented doors to get the metal for them. The fox latch is a push set up. It will have to be changed to a pull type. After banging my head around it was a easy fix. I will try to get ya a pic of the latch.

Thanks Terry I never thought of just pop riveting a small section just like that. I think I read somewhere that newer door latches would bolt in to the fox door but I don't know about that. I am slowly gathering all the parts and info I need so when I start on mine I know what to do and yours is the inspiration for it. Once again great work on everything you have done to that car so far.

I have a pic of them at home, I will check and post it for ya. The stock latch is a push set up. You will have to change it to a pull. Its not a big deal to do.

I just want to say what a wonderful job you have done on this build. You have been told what mad skills you have and you do. I only have 2 questions: What kind of job did you have before? Because you can see things and how they work really well and the second question is : How did you figure out the painting and body work? Just trial and error or did someone coach you. Again great build keep it up!

Thank you for complimenting the oleman...he is very talented...he's always been a mechanic by trade, but he works on skid steer loaders by profession...he's always dabbled in cars over the last 26 yrs we've been together...he read alot before he started the build to see what kind of issues other people had ran into in doing the 4.6 swap...he ran into a couple of snags here and there, when that happened, he would back up and rethink things...he's always had what I guess you would call a gift for seeing a diamond in the rough...he can look at what some people would see as a piece of junk and see a beautiful finished product....as for the paint & body work...like I said he's a mechanic by trade so that was a learning experience for him...put it this way, he has a new found respect for paint and body guys :lol1:....he did all of the work from start to finish, lost 30 or so odd pounds, and pulled it out of the shop for her maiden voyage in 63 days...since then, he's done a few more things, such as the door panels, rear seat delete, gauge pods, some different dash lights, little things like that...he's got all the goodies to build a really nice motor, just waiting on the hair to hit his butt the right way to start on it....didn't mean to jump in on his story, but it makes me really proud when someone compliments him on his car and his abilities....he never ceases to amaze me with the things that he can do....now if I could just get him to put the new motor and tranny in mine, I'd be tickled pink....:lol1::lol1::lol1:

Dang Terry just Read the whole build on your car... I remember when you drug that thing home and was talking about doing the swap... I don't know how I missed this site for so long. I'll have to stop in next time I'm in Maury visiting family. My mother now lives closer to me in Cary so I can take better care of her needs. She is in an assisted living facility now. So I don't go back your way as much now. But I will be calling you soon. See you're still doing work at the shop. Time for you to put a turbo set up on that thing hahahahahah I loooooooooooove boooost hahahahaha
