Have you ever driven your car and you thought you smelled something hot or burning? I was driving home from work and smelled something hot and burning.......looked around and didn't see any smoke. I stopped to get gas, when I got back in I noticed my right mirror was pointed straight up......so I went to adjust it and this is what I saw.................................

I pulled the 15 amp fuse for the power mirrors and the 20 amp for the cigarette lighter.......when I got home I took it apart and this is what I found

That sucks Wayne.:sad1: Glad you caught it time.:yes1:
So you just need the center section of the console? I 99% sure I have a extra power mirror switch out in the garage, out of my 89, that you can have. I would recommend a brand new connector.

Thanks.....ya for some reason I can't get the connector off of the switch :lol1::lol1::lol1:
I pulled the drivers side kick panel and column covers to check the ignition switch as the key chime is on the same circuit.....all is ok there.
It was a good thing I saw that before the 22 mile drive home from where the gas station......I think it would have gotten a little warmer!!

Yes the ignition switch in the steering columns Ford had alot of problems with....I replaced that switch before when I found out whenever I used the turnsignals with the a/c on they both would go out. Ford has a recall out for certain years......pm me your VIN number and I can run it and see if your car is under recall

Contact your local Ford dealer and give them the vin on your car to see if there is any open recalls for the switch or emissions.

Wow...never seen that. Seems like in all the foxes I've had though the fuse for the horn and cig lighter and mirrors was always easy to pop.

Come to find out the ignition switch WAS the cause of this!!! About two weeks after the power mirror switch melted I lost my turnsignals.....and the key was still getting warm with the radio fuse in. Traced it back to the ignition switch......now everything works great...........but it was 13 months since I had the ignition switch replaced under recall so I could not parts warranty it  oh well at least its not a very exspensive switch :yes1:

The center console lid is back in.............just the mirror switch is not wired up.....need a new connector. Also thinking about making a custom cupholder for that lid where the ashtray is supposed to be. Thanks for the lid bud! :thumbsup1:
