I am thinking about buying a 91 hatch that was a 4 cyl car but the guy put in a explorer motor in it. The intake is backwards which leads me to believe that it may be a crown vic motor. regardless, he is having trouble with the motor wanting to flood out. He said it may need a new computer but he cannot get the problem fixed.... need some suggestions as to what the problem may be.

Changing it to MAF? Harness, comp, MAF sensor.

Porblem : Intake is backward... Is it a GT40 Style? What comp is in it? what cam is in it? did he rewire the fuel injectors, or dizzy to make it run?

yes motor is suppose to be gt40 out of an explorer. dont know the year tho. all wiring is suppose to be out of the explorer. as for the comp. i'm not sure. has a motorsport b cam in it.

If it an explorer intake......it should not be backwards. The only 5.0's with the throttle body on the left side is the Crown Vic's with the non HO 5.0's. Something definitely does not sound right. I'd look for something else or if he is wanting next to nothing for it then get it.

Computer is suppose to be around a 9.1. yes the intake is backwards. it has the 5.0 ho plate on it...

Thats what i was thinking!! I didnt really think it was a gt40 motor. the guy says that the motor is a gt40 with a b cam and a crown vic intake!

Where is the harness and comp...??? The harness isn't going through the whole in the firewall in the correct place.

At a second look, the comp is BESIDE THE BATTERY!!!!!!!!!!

Well......if you have a 91 Mustang computer.....explorer wiring and engine , crown victoria intake and a B cam.....it is a miracle if it runs at all. The letter cams are not Speed Density friendly......if you get it you might as well get you a mass air engine harness, correct intake plus a mass air meter and redo the whole engine set up............big project

Look at the upper rad hose, EGR is on the wrong side, Crown Vic alternator brackets and the waterpump is turning the wrond way.

NO CARBS!!!! I HATE CARBED FOXES!!! Buy a 91 harness, comp, flip the intake and it will run.

Still going to be a big project. Looks like a hack job to me. No fan shroud....wires everywhere.......looks like an old CV motor was just dropped in there.....literally dropped in there with the hopes it would run. If you get it, be prepared to redo the whole thing..........carb or efi.

Intake will flip around. It looks like it has no P/S. It will need harness, comp and MAF, CAI, etc. Throttle cable is probably butchered.

Fuel lines, etc. Don't get me wrong, either way it will be a big job. How much does he want? Coupe Hatch or Vert? Is it in decent shape??

He would have to get the correct lower intake.......looks like the EGR spacer is correct for the Mustang HO set up. Don't forget the Mass Air Meter as well......and the correct serpentine belt drive set up.....probably needs the reverse rotation water pump..........fan shroud around the radiator....

Hmmmmmm I dunno. No matter what you do (Carb or EFI) it will be a pretty big project. Is it going to be a race car, weekend warrior or daily driver?
How involved do you want to get into to get it to run good and like you want? How much do you want to put into it after you purchase it to get it to run good? Those are the questions you need to answer before you buy it.

I'd check the heads to make sure they are gt40/gt40p heads. If they are then it may be an explorer motor with a flipped stock intake, or vic intake. Ain't nothing wrong with carbs, it may make a nice cheap ride to just pull all that wiring out of there and smack a dual plane intake and 600dp on her. ;)

idk what i'm gonna do yet!! friends keep saying to get it and carb it and drive it!!! Thats the easiest way to go!!
