I bought a 4-Eyed 'Stang last year back on May 24, 2007. It's an 86 GT that I bought for my wife as a project car for her. Here are some pics of it when I picked it up from my buddy.

Here are some pics that I took after cleaning out the inside and carpet. I am going to scrub the carpet again tomorrow and should be able to get it even cleaner. I was going to buy a new carpet, but this is supposed to be a budget car just to get it running on its own power. We will upgrade and replace after the car is mobile.

Here are some pics of the engine that we had just lying around that we took to the machine shop that weekend. It's going to be a stock non-roller 302 that's already bored .040" over with cast pistons. Going to put stock E7TE heads and an Edelbrock Performer intake with a Holley 600 carb. I have a bunch of extra parts from my white coupe that we are going to use. This car is going to be a hand me down car to start off with.

On June 7, 2007, JUSTTHEDRIVER and I took my block and crank over to Buddy's in Glenn Heights to get my block vatted, honed, new freeze plugs and cam bearings. Along with, took the crank to get polished and oil pan to get vatted. Well, I did not know he also took a set of heads and exchanged them out for a fresh set of E7TE heads. Buddy gave JUSTTHEDRIVER a hell of a deal for me. All of it cost me only $150.00. Talk about a deal. I am supposed to go get my block, crank and pan and go to JUSTTHEDRIVER's house in Waxahachie on Saturday and put my shortblock together before I bring it home. Here are a few pics of the heads.

Well on June 27,2007, I got tired of waiting on her to help assemble the engine, so while Austin and her were at VBS that night I decided to go ahead and do it for her. Here are some pics through the various stages of assembly.

Now I just have to get a front timing cover and a timing chain. Once I get those two items, I can go back and seal the pan and install all of the valve train.

Also still need to finish bead blasting the intake and headers. Should be complete by this weekend.

On June 28, 2007, I bought a double roller timing chain and put it on along with went ahead and torqued down the heads. I picked up a front timing cover from greenbullitt and I buttoned up the pan once I got it.

I also, finally put together my 20 gallon parts washer and started cleaning all of the rocker arms and push rods and misc. valvetrain hardware. Like I said earlier, I still need to finish blasting the intake and headers. Hopefully I will have it completed this weekend!

Well I busted my butt on the weekend of July 1, 2007 and just about finished putting her engine together for her. She had to go back and do a few odds and ends, but left them for her to do! Here are some pics of what the finished product is going to look like! Not bad for a serious BUDGET motor! (Total of $435.00 spent on all parts carb to pan and all machining!)

Got around to pulling out the junk 7.5 rearend that was in the car to roll it around. Also pulled all of the stock control arms and shocks. Need to finish wire brushing the 8.8 and painting it before it goes in the car. Also mounted the fuel pressure regulator and started running the fuel lines. I had to take out all of the old F.I. fuel lines first. And finally mounted the MSD 6AL box that I picked up from Travis.

TPK will be out of town most of the week, so my goal is to have all of the fuel system ran and drive line installed (the transmission and rearend) by Saturday. Then I can shift over to the wiring and putting the interior back together.

Finally got around to messing with the fuel tank and fuel system today. I had to remove the old EFI fuel pump and install a tank pick up with -an fittings. Decided to clean up the fuel tank cover while I had it off. Also, had a hell of a time trying to figure out where to mount the fuel pump and fuel filter. Along with how to run the fuel line. I think it came out OK. I'm not to thrilled about how and where I mounted the fuel filter, but hey it will work for now.

Also, got around to hanging the GMS Tubular U/L Control Arms that I took off of my car. I think they cleaned up pretty good. I even cleaned the stock springs and painted them with a fresh coat of gloss black.

Here are pics of the rearend that will be going into the car. Nothing special. Still has the stock 2.73 gears. Tomorrow I plan on cleaning it up and giving it a fresh coat of paint before I slide it under the car.

A little update.

Since we moved to GA, I left TPK's car back in Texas at my uncle's house. We decided to go back to Texas for Thanksgiving and while I am here decided to go and do a little bit of work to her car to try and finish it so that we can take it back to GA. Well I decided to go a different route with her car and we pulled the cast piston 308 that we built and decided to go with the 302 combo that was in my coupe before I went with a 351W. I went ahead and took the block to the machine shop and had the block prepped and bored .030" over. I had a set of Probe forged .030" over flat top pistons and Eagle SIR "I" beam rods just lying around. Had the crank polished and got a new set of rod and main bearings along with Moly rings and a Fel-Pro gasket set. Plan on using a Cam Motion Nitrous cam that i also had lying around. Not too mention I have 3 fresh sets of E7TE heads that one set is being polished and ported and gasket matched to a Victor Jr Intake that was also hiding in my spare parts bin. I think after all is said and done her car will be a lot faster than she anticipated. With as light as the car is, I am hoping for her to be able to run some 7.8x's on motor and 6.5x's on the bottle. I will keep everyone posted as more gets done.

She's looking awesome! Great work, and that's going to be a nice clean example of a four eye.

Is this going to be a drag car? If weight's a consideration, ignore me. Otherwise... while she's stripped bare, I highly suggest hitting at least the floor pan, trunk and the roof with sound deadener/matting. I used a product called eDead recently, and it went in beautifully. It has made the car a totally different animal, eliminated every squeak, rattle and unidentified noise inside the car. With all the factory sound deadener removed, I only added a net weight gain of about 35-lbs to the car - but for the noise it's eliminated, it was well worth the small cost in weight gain. And all the deadener I needed (about 80-sf for my coupe) only cost about $125. eDead doesn't rape you over price like Dynamat does, and the newest generation of eDead is just as good a product as Dynamat. The only thing I suggest is using aluminum tape to cover seams between the pieces of matting as you lay it to ensure none of the butyl rubber compound can get bonded to the carpet or headliner after you re-install them.

I kind of wondered if I was making a mistake adding sound deadener (because it was time consuming and labor intensive) but it truly made an incredible difference and was a huge improvement in the drive-ability of my car. My wife and I can have a whispered conversation in the car now, something that was impossible before. The stereo system is ten times more effective now, the AC works better because the cabin is well insulated... I liked the improvement so much that I'm planning to do it again to my '99 Trans Am and my '73 Pontiac convertible that I'm in the process of restoring.

Just somethin' to think about! Great looking car you guys are building.

Thanks for the advice/heads up. We were planning on leaving it a Street/Strip car, more emphasis on the Strip portion though. I may have to reconsider and put look into putting that in along with carpet.

Dug this one out of the archives. I am always looking for 4 eye project cars on here.:lol1: I was curious as to what happened to this build? Did you get it finished up? What's it running now?
