I think 4 inch would be too big. I would say 2.5 or 3 inch. Thats what I'm going with
Yea maybe so. O yea one more thing should i put hood pins on it. I got some just never put them on anything. :bat:

With the way your GT looks, I'd say no more than a 3" cowl. I had a 4" cowl and it was way too big. I think I'm going with a Kaenen 3" cowl when I get the $$. As far as the hood pins........I'd say no. go with the hood latch

If you looked at mine at the Labor Dat show, mine is a 2" cowl. Not to much, just enough to make it different.
Yea im thinking maybe a 3in now. i was looking a harwood hoods but they cost to much. I was at the lowes motor speed way this past weeked and it was i company out there selling them for $270. I dont know how good they were tho. :dunno:

When i was at fun ford weekend they had some used one with no cracks or nothing for 100. i regret not buying them. Go to the swap meets and you will find one for dirt cheap

IMO, the two best are Cervini's or Kaenen.:yes1: As far as hood pins, I wouldn't run a fiberglass hood without them. Seen way to many fly up and take out the cowl, windshield and the front of the roof.

get the smallest/shortest cowl hood you can find that is fiberglass. main reason for the hood is to lose weight off the nose. no reason for a massive hood unless you have a massive motor and want visibility problems. and even though hood pins look race car'ish, you'll be glad you had them if your latch doesn't work properly and they keep your hood from flying up and causing damage or even a wreck.
i think a 2.5 - 3 inch cowl would be ideal

4in and this is a case where you get what you pay for.those cheap hoods are just that.they don't fit well and they take alot of body work to get them right.pony up and buy a good quality hood up front.
ok of right know i think im going with a 3 inch cowl hood WITH hood pins. I have heard of hoods flying up to. It happened to my dad in his old gt going down hwy 85. His split in two after he tried to break a land speed record. LOL :)

Here is a pic of the 2 1/2" Cowl Hood that my wife bought for her project. I think it is just the right height for a DD.

I'd go with a 3 inch and make sure you use stainless pins, cause regular chrome ones will rust and look like a$$

Why is it better to go with pins if you use a glass hood? I'm gonna get a hood soon myself and have been wondering some different things about what to get. Also, which is the all around best pick...glass or steel?

Check with Hanley...I was checkin' out his hood y'day @ FatBoys...although it's metal, it's FUNCTIONAL as far as air flow which is a plus. The rise isn't too obstructive which is a plus too.

Hanley (93vople) has the same hood as me. It's a Goodmark 2" Steel. BUT I don't think they make one for the 86

Goodmark hoods fit great.:yes1: Even after the switch to the smooth cowl hood, Goodmark still is having a hard time selling them. I heard they were going to discontinue it.:thumbsdown1:

I like Cervini's cause they finish the underside of the hood and the the piece where the hood latches too is metal not fiberglass. I also don't like hood pins. i would not buy any other hood other than a Cervini's!!!!:thumbsup1:

I'd say go with the 2.5 and the hood pins. I only have a 1.5 on mine, but I got a SCREAMING deal on it ( Mach I ) , but I'm planning to install stainless pins in case the latch ever lets go on me. It happened on my 87 SSP years ago, and it AINT fun...

Im not a big fan of hood pins, but thats just a personal choice not to run them. as long as you get Cervinis or Kaenen. Both of them have metal re-enforced latches. which is a HUGE plus, so there not cheap and flemzy. And they fit AWSOME!!!! I would go with Kaenen, but...... i think ther cobra r for the fox is really ugly so my only other choice is to spend 500+ on a cervini

O, yea. Just in case you were wondering, the cervini and kaenen cowl hoods are diff. The Cervini cowl hoods, go up at a angle and is only of full 3in (or what ever size cowl it is). As the kaenen hoods are 3in, (or what ever size cowl it is) all the way up. if that makes any sence

If u wanna see what a 4" looks like look at my pics . Me personaly i like it ive i had a 4 on a couple cars. But its for the most part personal preferance. A 3 is a good looking hood as well .

thats champion fiberglass, i was looking to buy one just dont have the $$ but ive heard good things about there hoods esp for the price

I have 2 Champion hoods and will never buy another one. Kaenen will be my choice for as long as they continue making hoods. Nothing against Champion but there is no comparison for fitment and quality. I can usually get the Kaenen for $325-$350 and they are well worth the few extra $$$ if you plan on keeping the car.
Here are a few examples on some of our 4 eyed cars. I agree that a 4" would be way too much. These have 2-3 inch max so hope these help. I have several more but with the same hoods. If I run across a different looking one out here I will snap a shot for ya. :thumbsup1:

Definitely recommend Cervini's or Harwood don't buy a cheap one, you get what you pay for when it comes to fitment and quality..... I am going with a 3" on mine here is a pic of the 4" that was on it.....

I say no more than 3" rise with no hood pins. I have a Kaenan Cobra R on mine that I got from Justin. Excellent fit & finish. Heck, the gel-coat on the hood looks better than the paint on my car!! The factory latch & hinges etc lined up perfectly. I'd definately buy another Kaenan hood if I had it to do over again.
