Wayne's 88 GT

On my 88 GT I have been wanting to lower it since I bought it, but other things on the car and other projects (daughters car/home/family) got in the way. I have been thinking I want the FMS progressive rate springs as they say on my car it would drop the front 7/8" and 1/2" in the rear. I just want it to look good, ride good and not be too low. My 91 had Eibach's that slammed the front and rear, looked great and rode like crap.....for a 70 mile daily driver. I've also wondered about the drag launch springs, I've seen some run 4 cyl springs and just wanted everyone's thoughts/input on this before I purchase and install springs on my ride.
Thanks in advance!

I'm running the motorsports springs on mine and it rides great. If your not going to race it alot I wouldn't put any drag springs on

KB, are those the B or C springs? I checked and they list two diff part numbers for the FMS springs and your GT looks good the way it sits

As much as I dislike Dario, the owner of Steeda,:thumbsdown1: I would still say go with the Steeda sport springs. 100% better spring then the FMS B or C springs.:yes1:

I went with the H&R Sport Springs.
They lowered my 89 GT just about 7/8" front and rear.
Firm ride ...but not harsh!

Steeda and H&R are the best springs as far as Ride Quality. The FMS springs have good rates for handling. Just don't see the need to go through the labor to lower 1/2".

Wayne they are the C springs. You can ask Bones my car doesn't ride like a lowered car.

If Steeda are the best springs, I'm screwed!!!! I totally HATE my Steeda springs, rides like I just welded solid. I rode to Mustang Week from Greensboro, 4 hours 15 min ride and my kidneys were sore for almost the whole week, I couldn't figure out why until I drove back.

i have the eibach pro's and they don't seem bad at all. if you had the sportlines they are lower and are much rougher.( i think i got the spring line name correct.)

Cut about a 1-1.5 coils out of your stock springs. Ive done ito n 2 New Edges and did it on the back of my Fox. rides great and looks great.

Which Steeda springs are you using?

Wayne...you said, "just wanted everyone's thoughts/input" :) ? Got over 100 members don't we? :) Either way, if you poll 10 folks, probably 2 @ best might be in agreement. To each his own...beauty (and preference), are in the eye of the beholder.

I don't know of a/thing other than the BBK I put on the o/week...fine with me :) Dropped it 1 1/2" I'm told. I wouldn't mind droppin' it a tad more, but won't swap the springs out, but rather might consider (consider being the operative word) cuttin' them a bit.

I'm willing to sacrifice the ride for the look. Granted, I don't drive mine much, but hey...it's gotta look good! :)

I hear ya about that. If I were going just for looks, the Eibach sportline's I had on the 91 would go right on the GT.......was so low I had to stop before going over a speed bump in order to not tear up the trans cooler lines, looked awesome but rode like absolute doggie doo. But then again, I drove that car 900 miles in a years time, the GT I now have goes 70 miles a day, so I don't want to sacrifice too much on ride quality. I do appreciate everyone's opinion and input on this, thanks!

Atfirst, i didn't replace replace the iso's..just removed them because they were shot. The car was SLAMMED & rode rather rough. When I could afford new shocks & struts, I installed the maximum motorsports iso's as well. Ride was 100 times better & the car has a perfect ride height IMO.

This pic is with springs only, no iso's, stock shocks & struts.

This one was right after the SN95 5-lug, same springs, added the maximum motorsports isolators.

Darn I miss those Cobra wheels! Anyone got a set they want to trade for a set of Bullitts in black chrome?

This pics is as she is now, H&R's, Bilsteins, M/M Iso's.

If it looks a little higher, you're right. The stock shocks & struts were wore out & causing some sag. Overall tire height on all 3 sets of wheels is the same.

I had Ford Motorsport C springs on front/back of my car. I liked them, but the front driver's side sat wayyy low. Definitely had to take caution on speed bumps and had rubbing issues on turns on the front driver's side.

Right now I have the 4 cyl springs on front and C springs in the rear. The drop with these on front is identical to the C springs. So still have to take speed bumps sideways and have rubbing issues on turns. Actually have more rubbing issues on turns b/c the springs are so loose. I have to keep the front struts set to 7ish to help keep the car from rubbing on turns.
