I just got home from watching Tyler play some summer b-ball with his new team (JL Mann) and took Pelham rd all the way home..........car is driving good ......I get about 1/2 mile from home and there was no traffic so after turning onto Anderson Ridge Rd I drop into low and nail it.........engine gets to 3500-3750 and it starts popping/missing........I back out of it........go again and 3750-4000 same thing. I'm puzzled cuz I just put on a new cap, rotor and wire set......plugs are still good and gapped them all .054......All the wires appear secure......from what I can tell the vaccuum lines are still connected.............
WTF?????? :dunno::cussing::fluch::headscratch::bat::angry:
This has got to get corrected before Saturday..........:yes1:
Any suggestions???

lol my car started the same thing. I put on a new cap, button, wires, coil, plugs. have no clue what it would be I even put injector cleaner in. The only thing left to do is replace the fuel filter maybe it has some trash in it. My car only does it every once in a while

Fuel filter was replaced less then 2 months ago. This just started happening today and it was after a long drive where I wasnt easy on it......no skip at all from idle till 3750...........we'll see if it happens tommorrow.......

still got the stock coil? If so close the gap on down on the plugs.....also make sure that the air inlet charge temp sensor is good and the water temp sensor also

Water temp sensor..........thats the one on the coolant rail on the passenger side ? Also do you think I should bring the gaps back to .050......that is where almost all of them were prior to me changing them to .054.
Coil is not stock........Summit Racing MSD copy coil.
Thanks!

I agree with stable. My spark plug garps are at .45 and were like that when I bought the car stock. But I had a 95 that acted up alot at high rpms and could never tell why. Then I replaced my upper and found all my vacum lines were old and cracked. Have you checked ALL ur vacum lines, specially since I know you like having a stock 5.0

I agree with Stable...I never have seen a autolite that liked more than .050of a gap......I'd regap them to .045 and see how she does

:imwithstupid: My copper motor craft plugs come with .45 gap. Are you running platinum plugs?
biggin

yea i lean more toward .45 cause the longer u run them the bigger the gap is gonna get then after so long it will be doing that.

The gear that meshes with the cam shaft could have too much play. It plays out in the 3400 - 4500 rpm range. Causes the shaft to wobble ever so slightly. The only reason I know about this is because I am having a very similar situation in the ranger and have been tracking down this gremlin for months before i had someone on another forum turn me on to it. Unfortunatly its gonna require another dizzy to cure it. just my research hope it helps.

The TPI Module could be going out, also check the Stator in the base of the dissy, as it could be loose or bad. I had this happen on Kelly's 90 a few years ago.

I found out what was causing it.......must have a bad plug wire in the set I just bought. I took the FRPP 9mm wires off and put my old Autolite 8mm wires back on Sunday and drove fine Sunday. Drove it to work today and on the way home I put her through the paces like it did when it acted up and she runs clean all the way up to 6,000. Gonna see tomorrow if they can swap them out.
Thanks for the input guys........:thumbsup1:
