There goes another to the coupe, coming down 414 and the oil pressure drops and comes back up and now she's knocking. Really pissed off about it and don't know what to do. I'm not taking another motor out and putting another one in and that's for sure.

Dude....that sucks to hear. I know your pissed right now........but you would be better off to fix what you got rather than ditch this one and get into something else. Who did the engine assembly......I would get with them and see what they can do with it.

4th. what oil pump AND oil pump shaft are you running?
5th. has it lost power or drivablity in anyway?
6th. are you leaking oil now?
7th. what were you wearing at the time of the occurrence??
answer these an maybe we can work through this, dont throw her in the trash JUST YET! :thumbsup1:

i spun out of the driveway this morning but not hard but when it started knocking i was cruising down hwy. 414.
it just dropped to 10 and back up to about 50
it's the bottom end and it dont do it until you get to 2200 rpm so i think it spun a rod bearing
don't know what oil pump
it's still driveable and has all it's power
not leaking any oil that i know of but it was dark and i limped it home

Hey guy I have done worse. My budy told me the same thing after i built my engine. Pulled out of the shop and could not resist. Less than 300 miles later ALL of my mains and rod bearings were shot. Lesson learned. The good news is I stopped her in time to not damage the crank. MY mechanic located on tigerville road got all the bearings replaced with the engine in the car. She has been good to go since. I waited 300 miles or so before she got the hammer this time. It was a disappointing lesson that cost me 350 extra bucks. Sorry bout the bad news.

i know he put new bearings but i don't know about the oil pump, i'm thinking that's what messed the other motor up. i took the oil cap off and i see some metal shavings on the head?

in reality the breakin time for a motor is to alow a new valve train to settle in. think about it, the bearings and the crank are seperated by oil , they should never touch . did you have the crank bore and rods checked when the motor was built. i built short track motors ,let them idol at 1500 for 30 min to settle the valve train, then take it to the track and twist it to6300 and never have a problem. sounds like a tolerence issue. hope u find what the problem is without spending a ton.:patriot:

it was ran for 20 minutes like the guy said at 1500 rpm, twice before i even got to drive it, not saying i'm running from the car, if some one had a nice hatch or gt that wanted a coupe i would trade but it would have to be nice. i don't have the money to throw back out to fix the car especially if i want to go to mustang week

what grade of oil do you run . and did you change it after 100 mi. when you take a motor apart you will get debris in there even if you are carfull , let alone cleaning solvents from a rebuild. :patriot:

+1 we takes our straight to the track, mainly to seat the rings in.....Never heard of one having bearing faliure after just 250 miles, unless there is a mechanical falure (i.e. oil pump locked up) or the clearances werent in check.

i think the old oil pump was reused, the oil pressure fluxuates some

Chalk this one up to experience.......if you are going to do major work to an engine......spend the extra $$$$ for a oil pump and pump shaft........very cheap insurance esp with the engine out of it......a oil pump and shaft can be had for around 40-75 bucks.......sucks to hear you have a problem with it......but just ride around in the truck for a little and get the coupe fixed........:yes1:. if you need anything let me know
If the oil pump was reused, that's just plain foolish. A nice pump is around $50-$60, and that's the life line of a motor. Most people that build motors tell people to put miles on them before getting on them, is tring to buy time on their work. We build motors, and go straight to the track, and run the piss out of them. The only thing you have to do is let the rings seat(usually within the first 15mins of run time), and if you have a flat tappet cam, it has to be broken in right. Other than that, the bearings do not need a break in. If someone rebuilt the motor, and used a old oilpump, I would hold them responsible!!! Unless they got your ok on this, but I want even rebuild a motor for someone if they are going to reuse the old pump. Mainly because of problems like this! I know of some that believe in rebuilding the pumps themselves, and have good luck out of them.

Need to clarify my earlier post, My brand new Melling HV oil pump locked down causing my oil pump shaft to shatter. Melling said it was not their fault after looking at it for 6 weeks. Still have not figured out why a new pump would lock down like that. Had new screen and was pre primed before install. melling gave new pump and Bucks threww in new bearings at cost. :sad1: I remember the feelings well when she went down so soon after getting her running. I almost commited sacriledge and traded her off for a camaro. Step back, consider your options, then go ahead and fix her. Remember, if it does not kill you, it will make you stronger.
