Mark your calendars for Oct 25th. This will be our first Mountain Run of 2008.
If you have never been on one of "my runs" well let's just say, you better have great tires and brakes, because you will test them this day!!
Route 1)
This route will be one that most of you know. Out Hwy 276 to Hwy 11 South till we get to Hwy 178. We will make a short stop here at the store. Once on Hwy 178 things start to get fun, with some nice curves and up hill action!! Hwy 178 bring us into the town of Rosman, NC, where we always make a pit stop. Once we leave Rosman, we hit Hwy 64 for a minute and make a right turn onto Hwy 215, more curves and hills!! Hwy 215 will take us the the Blue Ridge Parkway where we will make a few stops for photos and such. We will stay on the Parkway till we come to Hwy 276, time for downhill fun to start, and to see how good your brakes really are!! If there is room to park we will stop at Looking Glass Falls, and also make a stop at Cesar's Head State Park. From there it's back to Greenville.
Route 2)
Hwy 25 to I-26 To Asheville. Stop at Baltimore Square Mall. Head out on Hwy 191 to the Blue Ridge Parkway. We will head South on the Parkway making several stops for photos and such. This route has about 6 tunnels we will travel though. We will take Hwy 276 down the mountain into Bevard, NC
Route 1 will be a "RUN" where you will push your stang towards it's handing limits. Route 2 is more of a "CRUISE" with lower speeds.
Please vote for which route you want to take, this time out. We can always do another Mountain Run before it gets winter time.
HERE IS THE PLAN:
Ok gang here is the game plan for our Mountain Cruise:
Meet up at Biltmore Square Mall at 11am.
Directions...
From Asheville and Waynesville:
Take I-26 East toward Hendersonville. Take Exit 33 toward the Blue Ridge Parkway. Turn Left on NC-191 Brevard Road.
From South Carolina:
Take I-26 West toward Asheville. Take Exit 33 toward the Blue Ridge Parkway. Turn Right on NC-191 Brevard Road.
Biltmore Square Mall
800 Brevard Road, Suite 590
Asheville, NC 28806
Weill we roll out onto Hwy 191 to the Blue Ridge Parkway, and head South. Along the way we will make a few stops for pictures at some of the overlooks. One of our stops will be at the Pisgahinn Inn http://www.pisgahinn.com
We will then hit Hwy 276, IF there is parking room we will stop at Looking Glass Falls http://www.ncwaterfalls.com/looking_glass1.htm for some pictures.
We will also be stopping in at the Cradle of Forestry http://www.ncwaterfalls.com/looking_glass1.htm
Cradle of Forestry in AmericaNational Forest Historic Site
Spanning over 100 years of forest conservation history, the Cradle of Forestry offers a snap shot of life at America’s first school of Forestry along the Biltmore Campus Trail. You can also take a picturesque walk along the Forest Festival Trail complete with a restored 1915 logging locomotive, or take a ride with firefighters aboard a helicopter on their way to a roaring fire in the wilds of Idaho in the Forest Discovery Center Exhibit Hall.
Come explore the sights and sounds, check out the events and activities, and plan your adventure at the birthplace of Forest Conservation in America – the Cradle of Forestry.
Cost will be $5 a person to get in here. After about an Hour stop here (to look around and check out the exhibits, we will hit Hwy 276 again into Brevard for a late lunch/early dinner at Sagebrush Steakhouse & Saloon.
I'm not sure how long we will be gone, as we are adding a few stops for the first time. So please plan on an all day event this day.
I look forward to seeing alot of you and having some fun taking in the beauty of the fall colors and fellowship with club members.:thumbsup1:

Yeah I could do that. I am about an hour from Asheville and the dragon is an hour from me. Only about thirty miles but its a hell of a drive there! I can be home from work around three thirty. Only thing it gets dark pretty early that time of year. I don't think we could make it there before dark. I wish I would have got up with you earlier in the year I had a charity dragon run. Ill be doing it again next year probably about this time. Ill keep you posted on it. If some of you are interested in doing the dragon Ill be glad to lead the way.

Uh .... Bones considering the responses from my "rant" post.... what about the fuel situation ?? any thoughts to postpone this ? We will have to be up at 5am, grab a bite to eat just to make it there around 9.... we also don't want to be out of gas in an area where according to other posts gas stations have long lines , if they have gas, and apparently often require law enforcement attention. Personally I feel the postponement would be in the best interest.... this is not an attack on anyone , but considering that the family day was postponed due to fuel issues in the upstate, would it not be best to postpone the mountain run as well since the run is prodominately in the Asheville and upstate SC area where fuel availabilty seems to the of the gravest concern ?

It seems the fuel supply issue is just about fixed for asheville. Some stations don't have all the grades but almost all of them do now.

Hanley, Check your PMs.
Everyone else, Like Shannon said the gas issue is getting better day by day; and by the 25th everything should be back to normal, maybe cost a little more, but every station will have all grades of gas.
Postponing the event even a week or two will defeat the whole propose of the event.......
To see all the wonderful fall colors and leaves changing.
For those of you that can't make it, I'm truly sorry and you will be missed. But this works for the masses. There is no way in hell we will every please all of of our members at the same time...Someone will always have to work that day, not have money for gas, not have a baby sitter, etc......
Myself and the other staff members try to plan events well enough ahead of time and in areas where we know the turn outs will be good.
Hope everyone understands this and doesn't get all pissy about it.
Anymore comments or concerns should be taken to a PM to one of the Admins. :thumbsup1:
