Whats up Wayne? It'll be fine. RPMs may be up a little on the highway but no big deal. The 2.3s are a strong built motor and can turn decently high rpms with no trouble. WHat are looking for just a little more pep on the bottom?

I've seen a few articles out there but I'd go with 3.73's on a stock 2.3 !

I have a 3.73 in my 2.3 5 speed car. Not bad, a little on the high side near 75-80 but it does help off the light. About the clutch... I have ripped mine out numerous times with just a 2.3 and 255's out back...

with the gears, you'll only be turning a few hundred rpm higher on the highway. with my 3.73s at 70 mph, I'm at 3000 rpms. depends on gearing in the trans also. if I remember correctly, older rangers that were 4wd had 4.10s in them.

My 2.3 and 3.73 gears runs out good. At 70 I too am at 3,000 rpm.
I just did a trans swap from an 86 SVO T-5 to a 91 T-5 from a N/A 2.3. The 91 T-5 has a lower 1, 2, and 3 - 4th is a little stretched and 5th is almost dead on.
You could still run 3.73s for a little better fuel economy/engine life, and change out the tranny to get lower off the line.
