It's hard to do that with skinnies on the front. I'm thinking about changing my set up a little and put some 17's on it. Then I can hang the curves

Luckily for me there are 4 different venues to AutoX at within 30 mins of my house.
After riding with me many of times, ive finally got my fiance to finally autox.
Shes got a bone stock 95 Integra, and beat up on a couple Mini Cooper S (shes in a all female class which is really neat in itself)
Made me proud, a friend got a picture of her sliding the ass end of the FWD car around and not losing it, just kept into it. Definatly made me proud.

ACU-4 is probally my fav.
Its the largest AUTOX on the east coast (supposedly) on the Norfolk Amphib base where they park the LCAC's (Assault Craft Unit 4)
www.tidewatersportscarclub.com
Usually registraion fills up within a day of opening it. So being a member already puts you signed up for the next event.
PUNGO Airfield is also a SCCA spot, alot smaller, usually more technical, and slower speeds than ACU-4.
NASA puts on a AUTOX over at Langley Speedway actually, using the infield and one of the straights (usually have shicanes to keep speed down on the straights)
And I believe its SCCA as well that puts on the AutoX at VMP (virginia motor sports park) which is actually an hour away ..... have yet to drive all the way up there for an AutoX.
I usually only do the ACU4 events now, I still suck, but its a blast.

I believe the planned mountain run Bones speaks of is the one on June 6th. It is following the Food for Fairview car show in Asheville that was posted about in another thread. The plan is to leave car show for a parkway/276 run and grab dinner unless I am mistaken.

For anybody that likes to hit the curves Highland Sports Car Club does autocross at the WNC AG center here in Asheville. I have been to two this year and it is a blast. It is actually what has made me start converting my car from street-drag to street-autocross-drag.

Hello,
I have an '86 LX V-6 car that I want to build for Auto-X and open track. I have an '88 GT for parts. What set up are you using. I am brand new to this and finding info on road racing foxes is difficult. I want to keep it inexpensive at first and upgrade as my driving improves. Any info or suggestions will be appreciated.
Thanks,
Norman

I am competitive in Street Mod in our local sports car club (highlands sports car club). SM or Street Modified is a fast class with practically unlimited modification. You need to pick your class first and adhere to the rules.
Many stock classes limits you to stock size wheels with offset +/- 0.25".
What is your exact set up now? I can do my best to help you. I know what works on my car so I can save you some time and money!

My car is a clean sheet now(stock). I have collected some parts: HRE springs, Maxim rear lca's, stock 5.0, T-5, BBk caster plates,Cobra front brakes. I know it is a hodge podge of parts, but I don't want to spend too much until I am sure I want to do this. I am a Drag racer at heart and the Drag car is almost done. I will PM you also.
Thanks,
Norman

They have some rule changes for 2010, but I would class you with those mods in ESP (E Street Prepared). Another fast group of cars.
What's great about the Auto-X (and drag racing) you can do a lot with a little, and big improvements can come from experience. You can have the fastest car, but if you cant drive it...

Your suspension and brake mods alone will likely bump you to ESP. It's a very competitive class. If you're a nOOb, I've found that most auto-x clubs have a noobie class you can run with for your first few outings until you get some experience.

+1. Definitely ESP.

I've autocrossed since 1996. I've discovered that auto-x is mainly about three things: (1) driver, (2) tires, and (3) low-end torque. If you can't drive, you're in trouble. If you don't have softer tires, you're in trouble (harder street/touring tires just don't grip well)... and if you have a cam that doesn't make power until the motor is revving to the sky, you won't be able to power out of corners very effectively.
Beyond those three things, a lightweight flywheel, good sway bars, stiffer springs, poly bushings, and adjustable shocks are what I'd suggest next. Pure power doesn't matter nearly as much in auto-x as handling and the ability to spin the motor up quickly.

I agree on power. I can barely put down 200 WHP on Ultra High performance street tires. Next season on slicks maybe I'll be begging for more hp?
Seems lighter cars do better too, so maybe weight should be a big consideration to be competitive. (aluminum heads seem like they would be about the only mod I would do to a 5.0)

Ive been into autocrossing for a while and the two biggest things ive found out that help (besides knowing how to drive)- 1. Stiffer Suspension
2. Better TIRES! Street tires do ok but we normally run nitto drag radials and they hook up better. Normally if you change tires, it will put you into a diff. class where the challenge will be greater.
I just go out there, get competitive, but most of all I have fun :thumbsup1::thumbsup1:
