not to bad to turn with skinnies but with 8in wheel/tire i would not want to drive it unless it had a manuel rack

but it can be done without going with a manual rack? and i agree with that, i have a set of welds so thats what id go with.

daily driven I have heard It would wear the rack out fast and lock up with no pump. Strictly hear say hasn't happened to me.

i took mine off and i put it back on, wasnt worth the wear and tear on the steering wheel and the 12 point turns, lol. personally i would put it back on.

i just went through the same thoughts as you.... i ended up keeping it even though i went grey trying to run the setup i wanted..... pm and i can walk you through it. basically: keeping it vs not keeping it only costs you about 3-4 pounds.

im running with no pwr steering, i just looped the the lines with fluid still in it. and i have 235 45 r 17s to steer. with them its kind of a pain but after a week you get used to it and it feels like nothing. i drove it for about 2 months with no issues so far.. but if i had the chance id keep it on.

I run a Saginaw pump on mine. It weights bout 2 pounds and works great. I run 17 x 8 Cobra R's with no issues. Coming up with a bracket is a pain though.

is that a nascar style pump? if so a place in thomasville NC called CV products will have the brackets, pretty expencive though.

Yeah thats what it is. The price is worth it for the added space and weight lose.

well here's the deal. my car has whats called "dealer" a/c which is 100% ok with me but is also 100% different from the "factory" a/c. So now that my pump is going bad and I bought one it was the type that goes with the "factory" a/c and wont work with the "dealer" a/c. Now I dont want to get rid of my a/c or my power steering but I would rather lose my power steering than my a/c thats why I was asking. Oh!! And I can't find the style pump that fits the "dealer" a/c and I don't want the headache of switching the a/c compressor. So now everyone can get an idea of what my issue is. Its not that I want more power or less weight, I don't care because my car is a daily driver and not a race car or dyno car, I just want an "LS" chevy killer that I can drive to the beach or the mountains or the city and be comfortable but still pretty fast.

If you need another bracket let me know they make them 30 min up the rd.

so i have been thinkin..... is it possible to change the brackets from one pump to another, because i didnt want to try and take my good pump apart and ruin it. if its possible how can it be done.

Both my 90 coupe and my 93 hatch have manual racks. Honestly going from my 89 vert with p/s to my 90 coupe without I don't even think about it. Even with 17's I don't think its that bad.

Now a power rack with no p/s pump is a whole different story! That's tough.

it truthfully depends on what your doing if the car is a street strip car and your not going to be turning a ton at high speeds then i say go no p/s if your doing autocross street strip i am going to say keep it just because of the speeds you normally go in autocross and how hard you turn.
