Speedo cable

Last week I finally got the speedometer working, had to replace the speedo gear, speed sensor and cable. The old cable was melted in a spot and didn't think anything about it.
Last night on the way back from Brewsters ice cream it just stopped working, not a big deal. I looked at it this afternoon for a minute.....its melted by the left side cat converter. Is there anything I can put around the cable to keep it from melting or run it a diff way? I think the prob is that it is too close to the cats themselves...................

any ideas and input are appreciated, thanks in advance
