I installed a bezel kit (http://www.latemodelrestoration.com/iwwida.pvx?;item?item_no=HUR-5380036%20%20%20%201&comp=LRS) in my car ~ 4 months ago and just noticed a tear in the boot. Its out of the 90 day warranty so I am unable to place a claim with Hurst/B&M.
I feel it was installed properly but obviously something had to cause this. I'm skeptical on purchasing another one and wanted to see if anyone else has had any problems?

well it could have been something I did to make it break the rubber part but all I did was shift and it just spilt not real bad but still well I would trade it away for another quick shifter if somebody wants it or I will keep it until I get the money for the Pro Ripper

Mine is completely torn where the boot doesn't even move any more, just the shifter moves around in the hole. What I did was cut the factory boot to fit the shifter, roll it inside out and put a rubber band on it and flip it back out. Kinda hard to explain but the boot comes up like factory then rolls inward toward the shifter. On the inside it has a rubber band holding it tight to the shift handle. I don't have it anymore or I would snap a pic for you, my buddy like it so much he bought it and I get a different shifter, then I put the torn Husrt plate back in b/c its just a 4 banger daily driver.

if you look closely the boot is installed backwards.....the hole is offset where the shifter goes through the boot....the hole is supposed to be closer to the rear than in the front

I think this might be cheaper to do than buy the Hurst kit, plus you may like the results better as well. I had already purchased the Ford Racing/Hurst SST kit, so didn't need the shaft, but you couldn't buy the bezel alone. After talking with the CJ Pony rep, we devised an alternative. They have the better looking Hurst logo plate and new factory bezels, so I purchased one of each to make my own retro bezel. Also, I've used the standard leather cover, which in my opinion, looks much better than the rubber one and is far less trouble! The leather cover comes with a round rubber at the hole, which I removed. I suppose you could cut it just right to retain it, but I think it looks better without it and you don't damage the leather removing it. Here are a couple of pictures.
