I painted a set of ponies I had a long time ago with duplicolor wheel paint and clear. I cleaned them with a degreaser, sanded them with 400 grit to scuff the whole wheels, and cleaned them again. Then sprayed 4 or five coats of paint and probably 4 or 5 coats of clear. They looked great almost three years till they came off my car when I got new wheels.
The wheels are the ones that are on the 86 coupe that NOVA purchased. They still look semi decent to this day.

I took my ponies rims to a painter to get them done they look good but whatever you do let them dry twice as long I made the mistake of letting them dry but not to long and mounted some tires on and the paint came off around the rim but other than that it was a good job I painted them pearl white and seem to hold up good but if you do it take pics good luck

I was just about to make this same exact thread lol.

they do still look good for the most part. little chipping here and there, but deff not bad for a rattle can job.
i may spray them back silver, maybe sand blast them.

I've done this several times. It's all in the prep work because of all the brake dust and tire shine that gets all over them. Make sure you degrease them and sand them. After painting them just be careful because they will chip easier than the factory paint will. Good luck with it.

I don't know if this is an option for anyone or not, but I was going to have my Pony wheels sandblasted then powdercoated white or silver. That would last a bit longer than spray paint I would think. I'm just not sure what kinda price tag that would have. Lol luckily I found some nice rims before it came down to all that:lol1:

followed the same procedure as stangsteeda described using duplicolor wheel paint..I painted my SSP's 10 hole wheels black.I used flat black as the base and then cleared them and it came out a nice satin black not too shiny nor too flat.
