ok when driving and usually between shift from 1st to 2nd my brake light is coming on. it stays on until you press on the brake for a couple of seconds. it did it on me mon morning once. wen coming home once. and twice this morning. so as you can see its random when it happens.
any ideas?
i assume you mean the brake light on the dash, and not the ones in your tail lights.
check the switch that tells the computer if the ebrake is on or off. sometimes it get get loose and act like an inertia switch. you can slide your hand in there and move it some to trigger it i think.

Check your brake fluid....make sure it is not low. Also check your brake switch.

yes the lite in the dash. and by slide your hand in "there" I assume there is the slot in the center console where the e brake handle is?

Most likely the Brake Fluid is slightly low. There is a sensor in the Master Cylinder that measures the amount of fluid. Not uncommon with rocking the car between shifts, etc to have it flicker on.

yeah I would say it is one of the two problems noted above should not be a big deal just when you get time check everything and make sure everything is connected and fluids are top off what year is the mustang?

if you fluid is low then don't just top it off.check all the brakes for low pads or shoes and if they are okay then find the leak.

^ thats what I am worried about. was hoping brakes would last till 5 lug upgrade. hoping its the switch but had to work overtime today and just got called back in to de-arm a helo.

wish it was in the budget right now. but when I do it will also do 95 spindles so I can run newer rims.

ok the anwser is the brake fluid was low. just barely below the minimum line. so will pick some up mon. I never looked at it before so dont know if it was all the way full or close to the low line. so will fill it and watch to see if its leaking.

I would still check for leaks and check your front brake pads and see how much lining you have left, just to be on the safe side.

ya I thought about that later after I typed it. still need to check to see if there is a leak. as far as looking at the front pads what am I looking for and how? never done brakes before.

Chances are you don't have a leak if it is just below the line for the sensor.
Wouldn't be a bad idea just to inspect the brake hoses to both front calipers and check the rear wheel cylinders to make sure they are not leaking.
For checking the brake pads in front...you are going to check and see how thick or thin the front brake pads are.....New brake pads generally have around 8mm thickness.......4mm is when they are almost about the thickness to start planning to change, 3mm I would change them out. When the pads wear down to the point where they need to be changed usually it causes the fluid to drop a little in the master cylinder because the caliper pistons have to push out more to get the vehicle to stop.
