Installing a speedo gear is easy... just take the 8mm bolt out where the speed sensor hooks to the trans, take out the speed sensor. Use a screwdriver to pry the retaining clip out of the stock gear, replace the gear and retaining clip and reinsert the speed sensor, and replace the bolt and you're done.

The speed sensor is located near the back of the transmission, near the cross member, there's a half-inch thick cable (speedo cable) leading to it and a small wiring harness.

Can I go under the car to do that or is it at the center console? And what about the little red gear does it go behind the dash somewhere? I bought the speedo set it has 2 sets of gears the little on and the big odd shape one and thanks for writing me back

This is the VSS, which is located on the transmission, under the car, not above in the console.

All you should have to do is change out the plastic gear there, which looks like this (with the clip also).

Did you buy this set?

If so, the round drive gear (the one with the hole in the middle) is in the transmission it's self. You would have to pull apart the transmission to replace the drive gear.

You should be good by just changing the speedo gear in the VSS. What ratio gears, and what tooth gear did you get to replace the old one?

yeah that is the set I bought I put 3:73 in it so it should be ok with just the small gear I think it is a red gear if that is all it is then I won't worry about the transmission on then if you think it will be ok I don't know why the people told me that they would have to take the center console out to put it in I'm glad that I came on here first thanks I will go out and put it in is there anything else I should know?

You'll most likely get a little transmission fluid dripping out when you pull the gear assembly out. This is normal so dont freak out lol. I just changed mine the other day. Including running a new speedo cable it took about 15 minutes (i already had the dash apart for the cable run), just the gear itself took about 3 minutes :D

ok I just did mine it was not hard but in a tight spot lol it was easy but where does the longer clip go? I didn't have one on my stock one and did not find where it goes and the speedo was running 20 mph faster now only 5 I can live with that thanks for the help and if you can tell me where the longer clip goes I will install it unless it is not important

If its the one i'm thinking of, its what holds the larger gear inside the tranny.

the long clip holds the drive gear on the transmission output shaft.
