I am working on installing a new head unit in my 92 mustang hatch car and after taking the the a/c controls off and I see something that might get in my way. Does anyone know what this blue box is? I am hoping that it is a factory amp for the stereo or something that I can just remove and discard. Thanks for any help. :thumbsup1:

I'm no positive... but I'm thinking maybe its something for airbag?
Because when I removed my airbag light in the cluster, something now beeps for a bit from behind the radio, not positive though.

Maybe it has to do with the a/c. I'm not sure what the blue electrical box is for. The EEC-IV is located behind the panel on the side front passenger corner, so that can't be it.

Unfortunally I think it may just be something to do with the airbag system cause I don't remember seeing one on my 88 4 cyl. But hopefully I'm wrong. Thanks for the input so far. :thumbsup1:

That is your airbag control module. Make sure it stays mounted & connected. If you MUST disconnect it, follow the proper airbag disarming proceedures to avoid setting a code or blowing the bag.

Its the RCM (restraint control module) or Air-Bag module. I wouldn't mess too much with it, it supposed to be mounted a certian way, position, etc to work effectivly. And yes if you remove or the airbag light burns out it will make a horrible beeping noise.

Figures there would be something in my way. I have no idea what the proper airbag disarming proceedures but I would like to be able to move it or just take it out. That is if there is a way of removing it all together.
And again thanks for the information. :thumbsup1:

disconnect the battery and wait a few minutes before messing with it. after a few minutes you can unplug it. you can take it out if you don't mind not having an air bag system. i took mine out of my 93.:thumbsup1:

As some of the other guys have said, will I have to deal with the beeping noise and will the airbag light stay lit all the time. I know I can just remove the bulb for the airbag light and if I had to I can live with the beeping noise. As for not having an airbag system, believe me I can live without having to worry about broken fingers and the steering wheel blowing up in my face if I'm ever in an accident.

yeah, if you remove the air bag module the beeping noise will not be heard. that sound comes from the module. light will be on though so remove the bulb. on a side note, take some electrical tape and wrap the plug that goes to the module real good so nothing can get into the plug and short any wires together. :thumbsup1:
