Motor mounts and the correct bellhousing would be the only issues. Motor mounts you could fabricate, bellhousing Im sure someone makes.

bellhousing and mounts are the same i thought. just use 10.5" clutch and flywheel that is balanced to the 289 specs. the 5.0 motormounts should bolt up to the 289.

the stock flexplate on the 289 will it work?
blown347notch
03-30-2009, 09:46 PM
no you need a aod flexplate the one on the 289 is for a c4. just make sure the flexplate has the same balance factor as the 289.

ok what would be the simplest and cheap to put in c4,c6,aod?

if your car already has a aod then i would use it. b&m makes flexplates that should work for you.

even if the motor is stock.Aod stock are crap.....Had a 95 gt did a few burn outs and the trans started slipping..... well maybe more than a few but they dont like it....If it was me i would get the kit and put a t5 in it and be threw with it..... I think 86gt (NICK) his friend is parting out a 88 gt with motor and trans could get it all for around i think not sure on the price 500-600.Or could buy the whole car for 1,200

PATC is garbage.:yes1:
I would get in touch with Dan at Silver Fox Transmissions (plus he is a site sponsor), he builds some great AOD's, C4's also, if you decide to go that route.

Make sure your 289 isn't a 5 bolt bell unit. Are you going carb or EFI? Fuel pressure regulator will be needed to run a carb, a lot of wiring for EFI.
