should have a solid black that goes to a good chassie ground or i prefer to ground to the battery directly.should have 2 wires to the coil and 2 to the dist.they say that the dist wires go a certain way but it will run fine either way.

heavy red - batt postive
heavy black- batt ground
small black-neg coil
orange- pos coil
small red- 12 volt key source
purple - pos on dist
green-- neg on dist
if you have a msd dist the dist wires should have a connector like the box and just plug up unless some one chopped it off

The dizzy is grounded to the block via the hold down. Use a test light to see if you are getting power to the MSD.

purple goes to orange dist wire
green goes to purple dist wire
black on dist not used
small red goes to what would be the pos coil wire which is a 12volt switch source
orange goes to pos coil
black goes to neg coil
white is not used.tape it up or heat shrink the end of the wire so it will not ground out on anything
