View Full Version : lets "save" a fox together as SEFB?

kind of along the same lines as the pay it forward idea.

We can all donate parts we have to build a car and either sell it, or auction it off. All the proceeds go either directly back to the club or a charity we all vote on.

EXAMPLE: there seems to be plenty of rollers (hopefully someone agree's with this idea and wants to donate it:thumbsup1:), I'm sure someone has a short block, there's a ton of heads around, etc. etc.

I bet we could put a whole car together pretty easy.

I'm willing to donate my time, and all the parts I have. What do you guys think?

I think its an awesome idea. As a joke we tossed around the idea a year or so ago about building a motor at the tiki during Mustang Week and selling it. It would be cool to build a car and then maybe auction it off for charity at say Mustang Week or something like that. Maybe do 50/50 on the procedes to charity and then to the club. Or all to a charity for that matter. Im sure we could get vendor's to get on board with helping out with a few parts.

BUT all that being said there is a lot of ifs and stuff that would have to work out. Who does the most work? Where to we keep it at? Etc....etc..... Sounds like a good idea but it would take alot of work and people to pull it off.

I agree that it would take a lot of us working TOGETHER.

We can set up a couple of the summer meets and work on it together, maybe?.

We need to keep it somewhere that has room for it and doesnt mind it being there, and hopefully have room for a bunch of guys (and gals) to get together and lend a hand. It also needs to be someone trustworthy since we would all have something invested in it.

I have 10 acres in the woods with plenty of room (and a spot to keep a extra car in the garage) with quite a few tools. And a bar and a pool if we decide to do a meet there!! Just an option:thumbsup1: I really dont care where it would be kept, I just thought it would be something cool for all of us to help out with.

A great idea that's been casually kicked around in conversation before, but let's keep the discussion going.

- To build something for MW we couldn't put up a junker.
- Clearly with Pay It Forward parts it will be mostly stock or very lightly modded.
- What about paint?

I've been thinking the same thing. Its the only part I dont really have an answer for. I know there's members here who paint, maybe they can help. But this may be the one area where we need to "purchase" something......maybe someone who works at a shop can get some paint that someone didnt pick up or the color wasnt perfect and we can get it cheap:dunno:

We can pass a coffee can around at the meets for the things we need to buy.

I own a Carquest store so anything we needed to buy I could get at 100% cost. They make some factory pack colors that is just basic acrylic enamal paint that can be had for around 100 bucks.

I see a thread that documents the build. As mentioned, getting our vendors involved. If a needed, some dyno time donated to check the tune and show how she runs...and it goes on the FB Cruise on Saturday and the winner drawn afterwards.

It doesn't have to be a rocket, just something pretty clean that's well put together with a decent paint job and considered a respectable dd.

Also, an excellent project car for Fox Mustang Magazine to keep tabs on. They might get one or two "how-to" articles out of it.

Parts I have right now

stock hood
t5 driveshaft
mark VIII fan
stock shroud and overflow
various brackets
starter
steering wheel

much more, I'll have to look later.

I think the biggest thing we need to start with is a decent roller, where's that Capri we have all owned?:lol1:

I know we're at the mercy of a donor roller, but I'd say a vert is definitely out as a new top, weather stripping, possible pump, lines, cables, installation...enough said!

That leaves a hatch or coupe. Not many will easily part with a coupe so a hatch may be easier to acquire and likely more plentiful.

Then again, what year(s) are better to work on with the least specialized parts. I would assume the newer the better...although steering clear of an air bag car would be one less thing to make sure works. (pun intended!)

What other things are there to consider?

Again, beggers can't be choosers, but if we have a few different options those are things to think about. The idea of getting this done quick and cheap is paramount.

I think a hatch makes the most sense (and has the highest availability).

Even if its a airbag car, cant we just change the steering wheel?

I bought new headlights for both of my cars, so I have headlights we can use also. I think I have a flywheel too, and some sort of aftermarket harmonic balancer. BNIB coil laying around somewhere, I'll check and see if I have anything left up at Boosted tomorrow also.

Having all the parts within the club I think will be easy. Getting them to one spot will be the challenge. Then of course garage space is an issue with most of us already squeezed for space or better yet the facilities(a lift and tools preferred)?

I'll go ahead and thank the Whites(TrueBlue62 & NC STANG GUY) for volunteering their garage!! :taunt::deal::pray:

But seriously, IF they were gracious enough to house the project, we need all hands on deck to help put it together...we can't just dump this on one member's lap to do all the wrenching! :bat:

While my first thought is the Capri would be kick ass(yeah I've wanted to buy it like twice) for over all publicity sake and ease of interior/exterior parts its probably not the best choice. That hatch on the over hand is perfect. Much better than a basket case hull that I was expecting we would start with!

I'd say this year would be a stretch, next year would be the way to go. That gives time for a few build threads(assuming a mag would pick it up) to get published and the word to really get out. Plus that way it gets done right and isn't rushed. I think it needs to be given away at Mustang Week(pending there approval of course). Foxtoberfest is a great even but the stage at Mustang Week is much, much larger. What would be cool is if we could bring the car in project form to this years mustang week and have it sitting out in front of our display friday and saturday with a nice banner or something promoting that we will be giving away the finished product for charity in 2013.

I could see this getting really interesting when it comes time to pic colors and other aesthetics...I guess like said before..it could be set in polls. What do you guys think about starting a subforum dedicated to the build...this could contain all the different polls, build pics, suggestions, a list of parts needed, a hall of fame (list of who contributed, not necessarily what was given..don't want anyone to seem less/more important). The thought would be for this to be a fun fundraiser for the club and to split the proceeds with a charity or charities. Members are donating parts that they might otherwise sell, so in a sense we are monetizing those parts through the construction of a complete Fox. Assuming the car is marketed via raffle and we do a good job of promoting it, a 50/50 split would make a sizeable contribution to a worthwhile charity. :yes1:

I agree with the children thing. I think the charity should be to help children with terminal illnesses. I know there's one where they bring the kids toys and movies and just make their life as enjoyable as poss. I think this is really taking off as long as we can get this going in the same direction. I would like to nominate a head over this so we need someone who lives in the heart of the vast majority of the site who can do some organization and get vendors involved and make phone calls and all that good stuff.

Basically EVERYTHING has been offered, we just need to move forward. Putt volunteered his place, and Sam offered up a roller. I'll move the car to putts house if that helps........I agree, let's get this moving already!

in in in.

I have some perfect, leftover OE parts from my 93 coupe. Upper/lower rear control arms..engine accessory brackets, throttle cables and a few other things.

I haven't dug through the thread yet but I'm guessing a clean, stockish resto is the plan?

Read a little bit more of the thread. Honestly - I think a 100%, or close to it, charity would be awesome - shows the real spirit of the group. The increased traffic and site sponsorship alone (especially if this could be an annual event!) would be excellent.

Where is this...can someone put together a recap?

I would be interested in partisapating, and I am sure I have some contacts that would also be interested.

Theme? (autocross, street strip, factory)
Current parts, labor, and products already commited?

A master list in excel would be great.

As of right now it looks like I am picking up the car at Sams place on Saturday and driving it over to Putts place.

I dont have a list of dontated parts yet, but if anyone wants to PM me with exactly what they have thats fine. I can start a new project thread and keep a list of what we have accumulated.

I would assume a "mostly" stock fox is what we will end up with. If we can get some aftermarket bolt ons thats great too. Let me know what we have and we will go from there.

I think we should start up a list of what exactly is needed and then add to it as more things are needed.

That would be better. Otherwise you'll have 100 people PMing you offering stock intakes and axles.

Yeah, get a hold of the car and see whats needed initially and post it up. Then as you start tearing into the car and see other things that are needed you post that up as well.

That makes sense. We'll make a list and let everyone know what's needed.....

Just saw this, as I am not on here as much anymore, and I am not sure what parts I have left, but I am definitely in to help the wrenching. I would think we really need a "team captain". Every one of the team build shows I watch on tv have the same problem. Too many chiefs, not enough indians. Nominate and elect someone as "el hefe" to smooth out disagreements and run the show. Most things can be done by polls, but if we have one color donated and the other colors cost money.......donated color it is.

:thumbsup1:Well, plans changed a little but not too much:thumbsup1:

Putts place is out, Sams garage is in!! He is going to need a few days to get ready, but he is more than happy to let us work there.

Once we are actually started we will decide on a direction. I am going over to check out the car and drop off some parts Sat before the meet. If anybody else wants to meet up over there, just let me know and we can bounce some idea's around.:thumbsup1:

Who are the board members over this? Who do I need to paypal and send list of spare parts to?

Also, when is the ballpark estimated time of completion?

This sounds like an excellent idea. I'm a full time student with wife and children so I don't have much in the way of funds to donate but I do have a 13 year old son that I'm trying to get interested in cars so if the location isn't too far away, I'll donate labor and some parts if needed.

I love this idea!!

I actually saw a 81 Fox Coupe for sale for $600.00 on Craigslist. The guy said either he sells it or he was going to scrap it. I would be willing to donate some money to save this Fox for SURE!!

http://louisville.craigslist.org/cto/2979084903.html

Breaks my poor little heart to think this Fox could go to the shredder. :( It's got SOOOOO much potential!!

I also think I may have a few parts left over from my project I can dig up for you guys. I gotta dig through and see what I gots!

We've made some progress in getting the ball rolling. It's under the projects section at the moment but it may have it's on section on the board soon to make it more visible.
