Ok I know the A9P is for a auto and the A9L is for a manual.when I got my auto swapped the guy said tha a9p would work fine but its deturned for a 5spd.he said if I get a a9l my car would run at its full potential.then another buddy said since I'm getting that E cam and GT40 intake installed soon I should just keep my a9p and get a chip and tuned cause the computer won't matter.I googled this and It seems the a9p is better with a better curve or timing to make up for the auto.I need some help help here.thanks

I dont believe Id worry about a retune with that cam and intake.

You're fine with the A9P.

Everybody wants the 5 sp computer and harness.

The only difference from what I understand is sometimes the P will have a higher idle speed circuit to make up for the stall in the torque converter, I had a P in my convert and I swapped it over to a 5 speed with no issues...
Hope this helps,..

At what point should I get a tune/chip?

You might gain some under the curve and little bit peak with a tune when you are n/a. Most people wait till you add a power adder to get one chip tuned.
Not saying it can't help n/a,because it can....just that most people wait.

a tune is NEVER required... there is always ways to make mods work without tuning... superchargers:FMU/BTM... injector swap:calibrated mass air or C&L style meter with cal tubes... ect.
BUT tuning will net better results than the old school stuff i mentioned above. IMHO, you shouldnt "need" a tune until you decide your not getting the drivability you want.

a9p will be better, as you metioned it has the more agressive timing curve, just dont get carried away with your base being to high because it can lead to spark knock,if you want a lot of base timing i would run the a9l, but for 10-12 base the "p" will work better...
i would worry about a tune at all, most will wait for the power adder to be put on, i would say anything over 400 at the wheel i would look for a tune, not saying thats the end all level for a tune, just saying at that level most have some stuff that dont work well within the EEC's +/-20% compensationn window with the fuel trims....and a tune gets it back within the window so the EEC can deal with them.....or it skips the table all together and the tuner sets the limits......

the A9P is actually a better ECU...more aggressive tune and maps....

My daughters car was an auto and we switched to five speed. I had another car that was originally a five speed (also a 93) and swithced computers before we sold it. Her car woke up with the five speed computer and did idle smoother at low rpms before. If you can find a five speed computer it would be benefecial if you can get it for the right price but dont waste big bucks on one.
