I put a starter on the gt Saturday and it worked fine until just a little while ago. I turned the ignition on and it started just fine, but then I hear the starter keep turning over so I shut her down. I tried to crank it again and got the same problem. I had to disconnect the battery to get it to stop. I noticed that the negative cable would start to sizzle when I would try to connect it. I had to disconnect the starter just to have enough juice to roll the windows back up. Anybody know what's going on with it? I've heard that the starter solenoid could cause this. Am I on the right track? I've pulled the starter back off until I can figure it out.

You are on the right track! How new is the solenoid? Is it a stock starter?

id start with your solenoid. i have had the cheap auto parts stores one do that alot. they get stuck and you have to disconnect the power to stop it. once it fried the neg battery cable terminal. id def say thats the prob.

If this one gets stuck, you can usually free it up with a hammer or tire iron (light tap). A solenoid is a 5 dollar part. Get a new one. When you put it on, make sure it's securely mounted on a flat surface. I'm not sure if it was here or another forum, but someone had problems with that and it turned out the way they had it mounted caused the solenoid to flex a lil making it stick. Went through a bunch before finding the problem.

Yeah Glenn that was on ssf. As soon as he unmounted it, it worked fine. It was being bound by the mounts

Thanks for the info y'all. I got it from a salvage yard:thumbsdown1:. I gave him my old one, which was grinding really bad, and $20 for the other one. That sure bit me in the a$$. I wanted a brand new one, but thought I could get by on a used one since it's not my dd. I give it another shot this weekend. Thanks again:thumbsup1:
