For some reason, my tail light lens keeps popping off. Well, not all the way, just pops open. I replaced them about a year and a half ago. So it has new clips and sealer. Anyone ever had this problem and know what causes it and how to possibly fix this? I added a couple pics so you can see what I'm talking about. Thanks.

Did you use butyl tape (real sticky double sided tape basically), when installing them?

no I didn't. Just the clips and the new sealer that came with them. The sealer is real sticky, or was when I installed them. I didn't use anything else because that was all that was on there before.

The new sealer you should have gotten with the lens should be the butyl rope.

Did you place the clips on the lens or the housing?

Are these aftermarket taillights? I ordered a set last year from 50 resto and I used brand new clips and the buttle and they keep pulling away from the center of the housing. I took them off and used oem ones and I haven't had a problem with them yet. So I guess these aren't as well made as the factory ones.

I had the same problem with a set of tail lens from Blue Oval so it's not just one vendor it all those who don't purchase OE quality IMHO.

My buddys was doin the same thing. we took his off, got all of the sealer out of it, cleaned the surface area really good, and used some stuff that 3m makes, i cant think of the name of it, we ran a good solid bead all the way around, and used like a c-clamp type thing with rubber on the ends and left it there for a couple hours. and there stickin great, they were also aftermarket taillights.

Ive heard of this problem several times with aftermarket ones, makes me kinda wonder if i wanna get aftermarket or oem ones. hmmmm

These were also aftermarket lens. And I did get new clips and butyl tape with them. And I used them. I put the clips on the housing, not the lens. The only question I have about the stuff someone mentioned that 3M makes is will he be able to remove the lens if he needs to change a bulb? I may have been better off buying OEM instead of aftermarket.........wasted that money I guess. :sad1::cryingeyesout:

You change the bulb from the inside, you don't take off the lens.

My bad.....never changed any bulbs. I put all new ones in when I installed the new lens. And I had my '89 for three years and never had to change any bulbs.
