Got my alt and cam today from badass1993.Left work early was like hell yea getting my car back running today.Well i put the alt on.Put the jumper cables on.Fired the car off kept it at 1500 to warm up and it cuts off and want start back.Checked the fuel thats good.Did check the fire tho.What could it be

IAC valve = Idle Air Control valve.....mounted on the front side of the throttlebody. I know it can cause some issues with starting and idling. Can be aggrevating.

you could have fried the module on the dizzy while boosting it,unlikley though .you had it running.

took it off last week was fine if your talking about the thing that bolts to the front side of the t.b with the plug in.Cleaned and made sure it as working right.

only had one wire. to the hot side of the coil.

car is getting spark :yes1::angry: lol beat on the IAC valve took it off to see if something was wrong did see anything.Put it back on car did try to start then but didnt

i'm feeling more like it's you're fuel pump. and it'll show good pressure but it won't run.sometimes it'll crank but if it is weak it can't pump fuel enough to run it

got any starting fluid. just take the intake tube off and spray a little but put it back on before you crank it. don't spray a bunch just a little. if it run you know it is not getting fuel

its getting fuel.The valve before it goes up to the to the intake.Has fuel and pressure there.Checked that sprays out good

Ok the new alternator has one wire......but the one you had on there before had how many wires? Did you retrace your steps as far as what you undid to get the alternator off and make sure everything is connected?
Also checking the schrader valve on the fuel rail isn't a true measure of having the correct fuel pressure in the lines......you may need to hook up a fuel pressure gauge and make sure how much you have.
Don't let it get you down......it may just be something simple......

i done what chuck told me to do.Toook my alt off.Taped up the 3 wires and placed out of the way along with the computer plug in wire.Fuel comes out like it always has like before when i checked it when i first put the new f.p in

It sounds like timing , being that you jump started it dosent sound like something got burnt up cause it ran . When the car cut off did it just fall on its face or did it act like it ran out of gas. Another thing check the plugs and see what they look like. I'd check the simple common sense stuff first.

the timing chain did have a little play in it when i put the new timing chain cover on.

So yeh I had a disty in wrong after a rebuild once and it popped and popped and didn't start, took me about 2 hours to figure it out.... but I got another car cheap b/c of it and fixed it in within a hour of troubleshooting since I'd had the symptoms before. But if you haven't had it out since the car was running then that's not your problem.

:lol1: that car is awesome, just the right amount of go power meanness and mpg for a daily beater.
And it really is a shame you don't live closer to cola. If you've got fuel to the rail and spark at the plugs then you should get SOMETHING unless your TB is stuck closed and you're not getting air. Does the exhaust reek of fuel after you crank it over a couple times? Making sure your injectors are still pulsing, their on a fuse right? I haven't had injector problems with a mustang but I know probes are, I've had about 5 of each :)
So if you have fuel spark and air then you're screwed and you need to trade Robert for the red one, cuz it looks cool already :thumbsup1:

A little play is normal with age, how much play is the ?
You can always pop a valve cover off and see if the rockers go when you turn it over, tell you if your timing is popped. This assuming it would be popped and not just skipped and your cover doesn't have a hole in it from said popping :)

I know of an easy way to check the IAC valve.......but it has to be running. Id say check the timing. Sounds like that could be a possibility since its popping.

tried to start the pos before i put the new part on the t.b wouldnt do anything.So i put the part on and the thing starts runs for 30sec and cuts off again.Now its doing the same thing again fuel pumps runs and getting fire but want start.So its up for sale tired of working on it

For sure its not the iac,may be even a broken wire ,you need to get someone there that is familiar with those cars.dont keep throwing parts at it.

Are you sure you didnt damage any wires when you hooked the wire up for the alt.the are several fuse links......

What about the TFI module on the side of the Distributor? did you check that? if that goes bad it sure wont run

The TFI is the little black box on the front of the dizzy that has about a 7 wire plug going to it if the plug is in rough shape or the TFI is going out it could cause the issues you are having idk.

I would check the TFI module too....they do tend to short out from time to time,and will defently cause the car to cut off and not start...but crank after its been sitting a while......Did you say you had a MSD on the car????? If so unhook it and with it back up like its stock.....If the MSD box has gone bad,it can do the same thing....More than likely your problem is ingnition related.......and just because it has spark dosent mean it will run......Also this cannot be anything of the alternators doing....for gods sake its on 1 wire to hook up........If it had surged,not much of anything will work,as it would have blown every fuse in the fuse block

If all else fails,I should be down next weekend,I can ride over and see what we can figure out....I have a spare distrubitor we can swap in and try,as well as a few other choice parts:thumbsup1:

The module was replaced,it ran a minute then shut down again.this is why he is puzzled.is it possible a voltage spike popped the module again
