Really depends on what your goal is.a victor jr is a good out of the box head and leaves room to grow in the future

He never said what cam.:nonono1: And you can get well over 300 rwhp by using a GT40 intake.

Well.....the very 1st question is if you have a 86-88 5.0.....is if you have done a MAF conversion or is it still Speed Density........if you are still running SD you have to be really careful of which cam to run.

about 300+ horsepower for a dd. just to have fun with. not a full blown drag car but a hotrod type build.

If you aren't looking to spend money, you can always get your stock heads ported and a nice valve job done on them, replace springs and rockers and you save some $$. I had a set ported and without changing anything else i picked up almost 2 tenths at the track. The is with completely stock bottom end and stock airbox.

300+ to the wheels is a heads cam intake combo away, here are a couple i have heard make power around that range:
my favorite combo - TF TW heads and a systemax intake
afr 165's, trick flow intake
performer RPM heads and a trick flow intake
all the above with a cam to match (call crane or comp to spec it out) should put you right around there give or take 10-20rwhp.
of course you should also have the supporting mods - 30's 80mm mass air, 70mm TB, headers, mid pipe and cat back.
Out of all the heads, the TW is a truely hard one to beat. I have done many combinations with all heads. For the money, out of the box, they are the best ones out. They also have room to grow, and are capable of 9sec. NA combinations(ported).
