Was wondering how I'd go about restoring the two side view mirrors. My thoughts would be to take them off, remove the mirror part, sand them down, use a flat black paint, and possibly throw a coat or two of clear coat. How's that sound? is there anything I should change in that process? restored my cowl vent that way. thanks in advance for replys.

Just make sure that you use a self etching primer before you paint.that will help the paint to stick.

self etching primer? hmm gonna have to look for that one. didn't even bother with a primer on the cowl vent, and it looks **** near new after 6 months or so. Another question is that I don't want to use a clear coat as that makes it kinda shiney, I like the flat black look that they are right now, any ideas on that?

I've never used the primer and it worked fine but who knows. I would take them off tape up the mirror part scuff with a scotch brite pad and put a couple of coats of paint. Cant remember the exact color but dont use gloss or semi gloss, I'll remember it in a min

Only do the cowl if you want them to match..and i would use semi-gloss black,it wont scratch as easily.ive have used duplicolor etching primer in the past.it has a greenish color, and make sure you let it dry good before you paint.

I took some 300 sand paper, then moved to 800, then 1000 and used that trim paint from autozone i think its Duplicolor and they look brand new, if there is stuff on ur mirrors use a sos pad of them softly, i just taped up the mirrors no need to remove them. I didnt use any primer and the paint stuck great, just make sure u clean them very good after u sand them

The paint to use is SEM TRIM BLACK. It is about $9 a can but it does good do it in light coats and make sure you do it where it is warm. If not it will run. hope this helps.

I took the mirror out. It is really easy just a couple of phillips head screws inside and one out side that way you don't have to tape and it is painted all the way inside.
I use the trim black paint.
