Okay, this is a bit long, but, I just want to get all the details in. I have a 93 coupe, converted from a 4banger to a V8. All the essential parts were converted (spindles, calipers, rotors, shocks, struts, etc). The brakes were kind of mushy. They would stop the car, but, I could never lock the brakes up. Yes, I know I don't really want to do that, but, if I had to stop the car in an emergency situation, I'd be screwed.
After replacing the master cylinder, we found that the right, rear wheel cylinder was bad. Replaced that tonight, and rebled the back brakes. The brakes are no better now than they were to begin with. ANY ideas are greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Yes, and gravity bled the wheel cylinders when they were installed

Nope. Checked those last weekend when we were bleeding all 4 lines.
Also of note, the brake booster was NOT changed during the swap. Was told, after asking around, that the booster didn't need to be changed as it was only an "assist mechanism" for the brake system.

will the fts lock up and not the rear? the stock poritioning(sp) valve could be bad. It is under the master cylinder, and it has a spring and a pisition that sets the pressure ft vs rear

The car won't lock up at all. I got on a deserted parking lot and tried, it finally came to rest, but, no locking of the brakes. The proportioning valve seems to be fine.

first thing you need to do is adjust the rear brakes as they should be.then re-bleed the brakes and post back after that to let me know if that fixed it.when the rear brakes are out of adjustment the wheel cyl have to travel further thus causing the pedal to go down further and feel mushy.

I'll do that this afternoon and let you know what the outcome is. Thanks

Adjusted and bled the rears. That seems to have resolved the problem. I'll let you know if that changes. Thanks for all the help. :thumbsup1:

Well...I wouldn't mind being able to get my car's front end off the ground, like the one in your avatar, lol. But...maybe next year. This year I just need the body work and paint finished. Thanks again.
