With a 302 or 306, none will get you 400 rwhp N/A.

X2...........esp with the 86 stock block/piston set up
It can be done, but not cheap, and not very streetable. Unless you go with a 347" motor, then it's a different ballgame!
maybe that is i bot much. how much can i get out of it?

275 - 300 at the wheel on a 302 with just heads, cam, and a intake. You will see some with a little more or less but that can just be the variance in dyno's.

Out of the box twisted wedge heads, good cam, cobra/gt40 intake, and a little tuning will get you around 300 at the tire.

Performer RPM II intake and Performer heads with a STOCK camshaft netted 310 hp on a stock motor with a good tune. The heads had a mild port job.

i made 310 with this same combo on a mustang dyno and 330 on a dyno jet.
300 whp is a fun ride.you will enjoy it and thats about 370 flywheel power give or take a few ponies

I say go with the full Trick Flow top end kit, looking 300-330 with a good tune at the wheels.
300whp is good, but 500 is better......
ok. yall think i can do everything with 2 grand and than tuning

Not with brand new parts, but u might run into a deal on some used stuff. That is if u go with the Trick Flow set-up
remember guyys he's got 86 pistons, cant run just any cam with them and are you still SD or have you converted

Why would he be able to get used TFS stuff, for less then other manufactures?
Right now you can find great deals on almost any good used part.

I wasent saying he can get TFS stuff cheaper than like eddlebrok or something, but TFS aint exactally cheap, TFS and AFR etc are around the same price range, u can get some Eddlebrok stuff for a whole lot cheaper than TFS. IMO
yea i have everything to change it over to mass air just havent did it yet. lol

You can still get to 300 w/o mass air......just have to select the right cam.....so dont think you have to convert to get there.....but if you have the stuff then go for it!

Is the short block the stock 86 piece????
If he does keep the stk 86 bottomend, the TFS heads/kit is the better choice. He can run a better cam with the TFS stuff, without problems with the 86 pistons.

I'd go straight to a 351 based build if it were me. I'll never do another 302 based engine again...I could've had A LOT more power for the same money if I'd only thought it all over a bit more LOL !
