My sunroof trim was a bit rusty so I dismantled it to the bare glass. Under the metal trim there is some kind of gasket which sits on the interior side of the glass and fits into the metal trim.

I noticed the gasket was in 2 pieces, looking at the rubber gasket I believe over time the rubber has stretched from the heat and has basically split into two pieces.

1. What is this rubber gasket called? Ive seen a few things on 50resto but not sure which is the part I need?

2. When I have all the parts and rebuild it, do I need to put some kind of sealent between this gasket and the metal trim as I noticed traces of old sealent, whats the deal with this?

Thanks in advance.

These are the two gaskets you need. one goes around the sunroof glass and the other seal goes on the body. Replace both of the seals so you know both seal good.

The seal that actually goes on the glass should just fit right in w/o sealant....I replaced the seal on my glass 18 mos ago and it hasnt leaked a drop from the glass.

You will need to put sealant where the bolts go through the glass to attach to the handle to move the glass open or closed. I also recommend to reseal the plastic pieces where the two prongs go into the body that act as hinges...but you can only get to them if your headliner is out.
The main thing is the seal around the glass is trim to fit.....so when you install that seal make sure you pull it tight around the glass so it fits good.

I've managed to thread the 2 big screws near the latch, im going to take the sunroof to a body shop to see if they can remove it.

I fitted the new sunroof seal to glass section and slotted the sunroof back in place. However there are 2-3mm aps on each of the 4 corners, does anyone know why? I fitted the seal snugly and can't see why this has happened.
