View Full Version : Fuel Pump Question

I think the catch valve in the fuel pump is going out on the Cobra or at least thats what I was told it was. When I turn it off and let it sit I have to turn it over a few times before it will crank back up.
My question is Im thinking for the future with the turbo set up becaue of course MW has got me hot to trot to go ahead and get it done. Should I go ahead and get the 255lph or 340lph pump or rather will either of these pumps work fine with the stock set up? Do I need to go ahead and get a fuel pressure regulator for it or will the fuel pressure stay the same even if I just change the pump?

Depends on what your goals are. What kinda power/injector/fuel are you planning on??

Want to keep it on pump gas (93 octane). Looking for close to 500hp with it. Dont want to push the stock block TOO far........... Its got 24s in it right now but will also be upgrading those too down the road (probably 55s or 60s). Should I go ahead and do the injectors too while Im doin it?
The turbo kit itself will still be a little bit before I get it put on.

The fuel pump shouldn't effect too much by itself as long as you have enough return line to support it. IDK about a 340 lph pump, but I would install a 255 now and if that turns out to be not enough when you install the turbo you can always add a pusher pump inline. I would not put bigger injectors in until you are ready to retune the car.

Go ahead and get the new 340lph in tank pump. That should be enough with some room to spare at 500 rwhp.
The GSS340 255lph pump is done at around 500 and would need a pusher pump also if you went that route. (my vert has a GSS340 intank and a GSL392 inline)
Wait till you put the turbo kit on and are having it tuned to install the big injectors. Go ahead with the 60's. More common and work well.
I would get an adjustable reg so you can set the pressure.(set at 39-40psi with the vac line off, then put the line back on) Always a good thing to have.

Who makes a 340lph intank?? I haven't seen one, but then again, I haven't looked.

Wow, in that case I would def. recommend putting in a 340lhp pump and not worrying about a pusher pump.

Thanks guys. I guess my delimma is I dont want to replace it with a stock pump and then turn around here in a little while and have to buy another pump for it.
I think I might be pushing my goal of 500hp with a motor with 154K miles on it.................. :dunno:

Nah...long as it passes a compression test with good numbers go for it.

Cool. So Ill be fine with the 340 in tank with this stock Cobra motor as long as I set the fuel pressure to 38-40?
