As some of you know, I'm going with a trickflow topend engine combo kit. There are about 4 for me to pick from on summits website in the efi category. My question is what do I need to be aware of when running this setup on a stock bottomend? Will have any clearance issues valve/piston? I'm @ work right now and using my blackberry to get on the SEFB site. So getting on summits site and getting the specs from the kit is out of the question. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

I dont know of any problems, u will be good on the piston/valve clearance.

try to stay reasonable. dont jump into a 2.05" intake valve. i wouldnt go above a 2.02" intake. other than that you will have a great combo

that would be my pick if i liked trickflow.

Trickflow is the most affordable for me. I've looked at the edelbrock and its a little cheaper but minus a few parts. Here is the website if that is easier to read than what I copied and pasted.

so your lookin at $2,419.50 before tax. did you look at piecing one together for less? also what hp range are you lookin for and is there a specific reason you want this kit or is it just for the price?

Honestly, putting together would be a major PITA. Plus all the shipping charges would eat me alive. I've looked for heads that were comparatively similar to them and I would still come out better buying the combo.

just lettin you know that frpp has a kit on sale for $1,649.00 that comes with gt-40 heads a cobra intake, a cam, a new timing chain, new headers, plugs, and ac delete, this kit has the potential to put down 350 hp also, just throwin that out there too ya if you want to save some money, but if your set on this kit you found don't let me stop you by all means.

Thanks for looking for me, bit I don't think those heads are aluminum. Not sure so don't quote me on that. Also, I just bought BBK longtubes and H pipe with some 40's and 2.5" tips. AC delete has already been done to the car also. That and I want more flow than the cobra intake. I just want more power out of my stock 302. I will hopefully start looking at stronger blocks late in the year.

If they are iron gt40s does that not mean people are paying 1650 for a exploder motor... with a cam :lol1:

I too think you could put together a better performing combo for less money ( TFS 190cc heads, systemax intake, FTI custom cam would be the major players ) that could make over 400hp, but I agree that the TFS setup will outperform the FRPP offering even though they are quoted fairly closely. My question would be if you're thinking of exceeding the block strentghs already, why not just build a better motor right from the start ? My engine builder set me up with an all forged 302 with Victor Jr aluminums, .544/.544 cam, DSS Prolite pistons and all ARP hardware for $3200 shipped, and that was with new Scorpion rockers, lifters, pushrods, valve covers, SFI spec damper, SFI billet flywheel, double roller timing chain, oil pump, etc... All assembled and ready to add my intake, exhaust, distributor and front dress prior to dropping in. It can be done if you look around. BTW, now we're looking at a 408 shortblock for $2800. The point is that I could've saved some money by getting the 408 the first time LOL !

Skip you provide a very valid point that, otherwise has been looked over but hasn't seemed that affordable. Who is your builder? Any contact info? If that kind of work can be done, then I would like to look into it. I'm not trying to blow up my 302, but I've always wanted a forged 306 with heads and a nice cam. Nothing too aggressive, very streetable. Possibly with the potential to run forced induction on it, but nothing over 12lbs and no plans of a power adder right away.

Remember that the GT Cobra intake set up is a nice deal but you will be stuck around the 360 HP threshold because thats all they are rated to exceed. It really matters on how fast you get down the road ! D

Not 100% true. MM&FF tested the GT40 intake on a 347 and made 450 HP without any problems. And that was without a ported lower.

If you would like, stop by sometime, and we could talk about what you are trying to do....

I need to do stop by and as far as my asspirations. I would like to see 400hp streetable as possible. I have no ac right now but if I wanted to put it on I could. A forged 306 with some good flowing heads and a nice intake 9.5:1 ratio would be where I want to go. Skip, thanks for the PM and I'll be registering on the boards prolly tonight. Mark, I'll call and try to stop by on friday. The answers to the heads questions are very appreciated, but if I can get a SB or LB for close to that price with heads I'm deffinately gonna look into that.
