No I haven't, but did they put one behind a 5.0 at anytime??? I think the 4.6 bellhousing is different.

They were put in the Explorer & Mountaineers when they had the 5.0's from 1996 - 2001. And some F series trucks also.

i know those tranny were way better than the aod that came in the 5.0's and are a good upgrade for them, just wanted to see if anyone around here did one that i could look at or talk to and see how they liked it.

I know people use some of the parts, and put them in the AOD's. But since they were computer controlled, not 100% sure about the swap.

a guy that works for me has one in his coupe.he uses the baumam(sp) trans controller/software and his lap top.works great. Those trans are just lower geared aode's and suppose to be alittle more beefy also.

I believe that most of your auto trans questions can be answered at the link provided below. Not sure about aod, but I do no that the aode and 4R70W have alot of interchangable parts. I plan on using the gear set out of 4W70 when I upgrade my trans (95 auto). I believe the major difference is bell housing. Electronic controls, you'll have to read on. Hope this helps.

i have been reading over at clickclickracing.com (good site btw for aod cars) and it seems that they are pretty simple to control, you can just use a manual vb and things seem to work fine.

no you don't have to but you can monitor the trans while driving if you do have it hooked up.

I too would've recommended Baumann for the control of a 4R70, but in the past on beefed Foxes with an AOD merely solved my issues by running a Lentech AOD. My unit ran low 11's at over 125 for a couple years in a past 92 Hatch, and never so much as whimpered. It wasn't cheap, but it kicked SERIOUS tail LOL !
