I want to get a jump on this one to maximize attendance. Final details are tbd, but I have us penciled on there calendar for the Saturday of Father's Day weekend(6/18/11).

This is for the NASCAR Hall of Fame in downtown Charlotte, NC. It will be a self-guided tour and lunch.

They're offering us free parking for up to 30 cars on the Plaza(the concrete area between the street and the front doors, where the jumbo-tron is...an awesome photo op!) and a discount on the tour and lunch.

Adult tickets are normally $18.95 and an extra $5.00 for the driving simulator(a must!!), then whatever you would spend for lunch($10). The discounted combo package for all three will be $26.95(lunch is sandwich, chips and drink at "The Pit Stop Cafe")

A further discount for a family of 4(Mom, Dad and 2 kids over 12) is $99.80

Children 5-12 yrs old is $11.95, but the driving simulator is for 11 and older, so for those with little ones 10 and under it's cheaper to pay for the family individually.

Attached to the Hall of Fame is a Buffalo Wild Wings so that's also a food option.

We can eat first then tour or reverse order if preferred.

They say the average visitor is there for 3 1/2 hours. I've been there once and must say it's pretty cool. They also have a tire change simulator/competition running all the time so I see some of us working up a sweat!!!

So what do you say? No better Father's Day gift than a day in the Stang at the NASCAR Hall of Fame!!!

Post up if you plan to attend and more details to follow in the coming weeks.

I may just do that, I'll have to wait and see what the family has planned that weekend. I won't have a mustang so I don't need a parking spot :D

I figure around lunch time...we can either show up around noon and eat lunch first or show up earlier around 10am, tour, then eat afterwards. There's really no set schedule, it's whatever we decide. :thumbsup1:

Ok so Saturday is upon us so I need to iron out some details to tell the NHOF folks.

- Do we want to tour then eat, or eat then tour?
- Do you want to eat at the Buffulo Wild Wings that's attached to the NHOF or eat the box lunches provided byt the NHOF?
(Tickets alone are $18.95 per person, then whatever you order at BWWs...or a ticket and box lunch for $26.95 per person)

I need some feedback on these two questions which will determine our arrival time and lunch plans.

Also, please confirm if you're on the attendee list but can't make it or need to be added. Headcount is important with this event for the Plaza parking.

Thanks!

Ok, spoke to the coordinator this morning about a couple things she never mentioned before, but may still work out.

If we're going to park on the Plaza the cars have to be there by 8:30am. We have to sign a waiver and must bring cardboard for leaks.

The Hall doesn't open until 10am. We could then tour when it opens and eat afterwards.

If we choose to pass on the Plaza parking we can show up whenever, but will need to park curbside(which may be metered...not sure) or in a parking deck(required fee).

What do you want to do? Is anybody up for waking the neighbors up Saturday morning?

I also say we go for the early route.

Meet at the NHOF by 8:30am
Park and chill for the next hour or so.
Doors open at 10am, begin our self guided tour thereafter.
Should be wrapped up with tour/pit crew challenge/driving simulators by 12-12:30pm
Go next door to Buffalo Wild Wings for some grub by 12:30pm
Out of there by 1:30pm at the latest.

Sound good?

This is the plan I'll tell the coordinator. I'll also give her a rough headcount of 12 cars...little more, little less will be fine!!

Bad news folks...we're going to have to postpone this meet for the reasons below:

- The NHOF tells me yesterday morning in an email that we need to provide our certificate of insurance with $1million general liability so they can be added as a ridder(if we had such a policy that would be fine, but...)
- They also mentioned this afternoon that they needed to collect funds for the discounted tickets yesterday(again the first I heard of in about 3-5 different phone conversations and emails since November!!)
- They require the insurance from all of the car clubs and car shows held there so this takes parking on the Plaza out and removes the photo-op.
- Attendance turned out very poor, but I'll take the blame as trying to put together a somewhat expensive meet the month before MW was a bad decision.

Not to say we can't try it again in the fall, minus the special parking, but "no go" for tomorrow.

Apologies for pulling the plug at the last minute!! :sad1:

ibd14u2c
06-17-2011, 10:12 PM
dont worry about it troy. The last minute would be tommorow morning:lol1:
That sucks. Sounds like they need to be a little more infomative. Guess we will see you next week at oakboro.

Really sounds like the NHOF could care less and wants to make it hard for groups.
I don't see how a standard procedure and rules couldn't be told or emailed to a group the first time they ask about visiting the NHOF,instead of the last minute bs. Comes off as very poor management.

:yeahthat:

That's exactly what I was thinking Eric. For months it was like "yeaaah, we'd love to have your club come the The Hall"..."Oh yeah parking on the Plaza is no problem, as long as you guys bring cardboard for leaks!"..."we can do box lunches and discount the tickets and blah-blah-blahh!!"

Then just this week I get..."you need to park by 8:30am, but doors don't open 'til 10am"..."you need to provide insurance!"..."you need to pay up front!"...I have emails going back to November and the first mention of this stuff was Wednesday!

Maybe some insight into why attendance has been less than expected! :nonono1:

Thats why they are doing terrible as well, except for the race weekends, other then those weekends, that place is dead.

Sounds just like Zmax Dragway as well.:lol1::lol1::lol1:

Troy maybe you should send them all the emails back and tell them no wonder they have bad attendance and maybe they need to restructure the way they do business. Cause they just lost our business. That sucks.

Racing School (http://www.racingadventure.com/)
It was a fitting setting for the announcement, as Petty’s first-ever NASCAR-race took place at Toronto’s CNE stadium in 1958.

Found this on another site

"My husband thought this was rather touristy but once in the car he thought it was a blast. He did the ride along and would have loved to drive it himself if we had the time.

"

Cardboard?... :lol1::lol1::lol1: Did you tell them were driving Fords and not Harley Davidson's?

Well both companies are 108 years old, so its understandable when they can't hold in their fluids! :lol1:
