Well it didn't go as I planed but it was ok I guess. I had a ton of crap in the trunk along with the SSP full-sized spare. Couldn't get it to hook so I left like Grandpa Moses off the tree with 60' and RT to prove it. The car specs out as follows. 306 , balanced, box stock TW heads, Lunati VooDoo cam (flat tappet), Edelbrock upper/lower, stock TB and spacer, 78mm MAF with 30lb injectors, stock rockers, 7 quart pan, equal length shorties, off-rad H with 2 chambers and stock tail pipes, stock T5 with stock replacement RAM clutch, 3.55 gears, bald BFG KDW tires( I mean no wear bars), stock driveshaft, stock control arms, Steeda springs with Tokico shocks and struts, etc
First pass
RT: .751
60': 2.059
330': 5.945
1/8th: 8.999
MPH: 82.85
Second pass
RT: .927
60': 2.098
330': 5.823
1/8th: 8.814
MPH: 84.20
All in all it was a good night. Felt like the clutch was hazing in 3rd, had to drive it out of the hole and it would spin if I got on it in 1st or 2nd. So pretty much drove it 1&2 and layed into 3rd then the clutch was hurting. I need tires and gears along with a TB and either a clutch(which I know is pissing in the wind) or just build a C4 with a stall. Everybody was silent when I went the 8.999 b/c we run index 8.99 class and I was the first Test and Tune car after 1st round of qualifying. It has a lot left in it as the 60' indicate. My 69 in the sig below went a 8.81 on a 306 and a C4 with full interior, etc.

Get those 60ft times down, and your times will improve dramatically. Got to start some where.

No video this time more of a spur of the moment thing. Really need the 60' down a lot. My worst was a 2.25 but the best was a 2.05, it consistantly sucked. I need tires and a gear bad. Looks like I'll be looking for an explorer at the salvage yard with an 8.8 w/ 4.10's. It would pull hard in second but started breaking the tires loose at around 4000-4500 rpm. I am hoping for low 8's or high 7's with this motor trans combo, just better tires and maybe some gear.

4.10's will help a lot, as will a good set of suspension components and a set of DR's. The clutch needs to be upgraded as you mentioned, and I'd also do the T/B and rockers when you get a chance...

I got a set of comp cam roller tips on it now. They are the cheap $100 1.6 ratio but had to have them, pedistal mount and TW heads don't mix.

They didn't come with 4.10's, they had 3.73's with the tow package.

Are the studs on the heads 3/8 or 7/16?

I swaped them to 3/8 so I could make it to mustang week. Also the 2nd gen explorers came with 4.10's , 31 spline and posi.

I have a set of 7/16 Scorpion 1.6's I'm not using. But that won't help you with 3/8 studs. Never seen an Explorer or Mountaineer with 4.10's from the factory myself. My father has had many Explorer's and Mountaineers since the early 90's. He always got the tow package, which had the 3.73's.

After looking around on the Explorer forum, the 1995-2001 Ford Explorer's were offered with 3.55, 3.73, or 4.10 gears from the factory. But the guys over there say the 4.10's are a very rare find. Good luck on the hunt.:thumbsup1:

If you improve your reaction time and 60ft.....would make all the difference in the world.
Overall if you drove the car there, made passes and drove it home with no breakdowns.....it was a good day!

I found a 3.73 Explorer rear at the bone yard. $40 for the ring and pinion. He wanted $60 for the 31 spline posi unit. I didn't think it was a bad deal, but didn't have the cash. Yeah the 4.10's are hard to find but there are SOME out there, the search continues but at very least I have 3.73's. Also... I'm building a turbo coupe rear I got from the same boneyard. Now I will have 4-lug 4 wheel disc brakes. It will get some attention with the chrome ponies.

What does the SSP have 2.73's? If so 3.73's will be a big improvement.:yes1:

My SSP came with 3.08's
I'll check with my hookup at Ford and see if he's got a set of 4.10's that the factory never asked for back from the dealer. He usually uses 'em, but sometimes I get lucky LOL ! :thumbsup1:

Yeah I work at a Ford Dealership too, but me being an idiot and not having a Fox at the time threw away about 15 sets of 3.73/4.10 sets, DOH. My car has 3.55 under it now, still bogs off the line or if it doesn't bog it boils the tires. My 4 banger has 3.73's in it and I like the driveablitiy of them a lot better. My car was a factory 3.08 car, tho. Now I need a set of slick/street slicks, control arms, and a better alxe and I'll make some more passes. This was more of a "baseline" as much as a stock chassis 5 speed 306 baseline you can make.
