Prayers sent. I worked in a Coronary Care Unit for about 8 years and open heart procedures are routinely done and the success rate is quite high and lenght of stay in intensive care is about 5-7 days barring any complications. The grafts are generally good for about 10 years if the patient takes care of themselves and makes any needed lifestyle changes. They have made great advances over the years with open heart surgery and things usually go quite well. Sounds like your dad is stable and overall is doing well.

Its true those Doctors sure have come a long way. Does not take away the desperate feelings you have when your Dad is needing the surgery. Was just a few years ago when i raced down to Montgomery to be there when my dad went through a quadrupple bypass of his own. Its hard to handle. You and your Father are in my prayers. There really is power in prayer and I for one am thankful to have the opportunity to do so......

As a christian working in health care [ intensive care mostly ] I have had the experience many times over to witness the power of God supernaturally [ prayer ] and naturally [ medicine ] heal those in need. I've also seen distraught family members whose loved ones are quite ill and have just been told a considerable amount of medical information over a 3 minute time span and they still feel very powerless and unsure. As a RN I spend a lot of time with the patient and their families explaining in detail and simple terms their disease process and what it is that we are doing to bring about the healing. When things are explained and the outcome is generally positive the patient and their family lose that sense of dread and uncertainty . I've also been a patient [ 11 operations over 6 years ] and have realized that a caring and informed voice is good medicine.

I completely understand. My dad had a quin bypass in 2009. It was so scary. It will be a long road, but he will be fine. Glad to hear he made it through ok. I would never want to have to go through that surgery. It is very very scary. Prayers sent for a speedy recovery.
