The guy who had my car before me put some retarded custom X pipe on it which looks and sounds like ****. I gotta change that soon. I'm also going to be getting rid of the dynomax mufflers too. Can any of you guys suggest a good combo? Also what brand of mid pipe you think is the best. I was thinking Mac no cats H with flow 40's and purhaps some long tubes in the next few months.

I'd wait to get the whole setup until the longtubes... I'm runnin 40's with SLP's and the cats and n H pipe.

Stay away from MAC stuff.:yes1: BBK makes a good product for the money. Which ever way you decide to go, either long tube, or shorty headers.

As far as mufflers. Get what ever ones that you think sound the best. Some love Flowmasters others hate them.

depends on which dynomax you have but they can be some pricey mufflers, check into the pypes brand, they sound pretty sweet

i would decied on the headers before you order a mid pipe. so your not buying 2 of them. lol. I personally like Basanni (sp) x pipe with flows. and basanni or kooks header. but i got expensive taste.

check into the pypes brand,

Same as MAC, you couldn't pay me to run Pypes stuff on my car.

Bbk longtubes with who knows H pipe and flow 40s. That's pretty much where I stand. I know on sn95 & new edge that the cross member needs to be removed for header install. Does the same thing aply with the foxes?

Flowmasters are built for sound and kill performance according to dyno evidence apparently, saw it on corral last time I was on that forum a few months ago... but they say magnaflows are good for the sound + power...

I put a Bassani X pipe on my 95 that I picked up on another forum for 100 bux... put some FRPP shorties (-emissions) on it and it was very nice power + sound even with stock catback...

Have a H pipe on this one and its clean sounding, not as nasty as an X pipe, smoother I guess but the flowmaster race series mufflers, with turn downs even, makes it very loud...

IMO dual 40 series will probably drive you nuts with noise if its your DD (especially if you've got rattles). My friend put a 40 series on his talon and even the turbo 4cyl at idle and cruising (no matter how mean sounding) is very loud.

No you will have to jack the motor up to install the longtubes, and remove the stering shaft:yes1:

Guess your luck is better with MAC then mine.:yes1: I have had 2 different sets of MAC headers come apart at the welds.:thumbsdown1:

I'll prolly stick with BBK for the longtubes and the mid.

Sphinx. Tell me you are not serious? I had a 95 TSI and I wouldn't dare put anything by flowmaster on that car. She was pushing close to 300hp. Tell your friend to quit being cheap and get a Megan 3" downpipe and a Tsudo 3" exhaust. Nice quiet import. Not a rice burner.

Gone but not forgotten...yeah yeah yeah I know it was an import, but at least I didn't just install a fart can and neons...my fart can had all the right pluming.

I run BBK L/T's and matching O/R H pipe on my Coupe, and recently switched from Flowmaster 2 chamber dumps to a custom Magnaflow dump setup. I couldn't be happier with the switch, and although I've run Flows on many of the various 14 different Stangs I've owned through the years, I've likely bought my last set of 'em...

exactly what i have. 1 5/8 bbk longtubes, bbk short hpipe, flows. but i'm old school so i like the old school sound.

only thing we had to do to install my headers was disconnect the steering shaft. and no starter of course.

Amen! That is the sound that got me hooked on mustangs many years ago. I have that same setup on my car & everytime I hear it come to life I get a smile on my face.

I have not seen the dyno test you mentioned, but others I have seen were very close - like 3-4hp difference. You will not feel that difference. If you do, you must have the best seat of the pants dyno ever seen.

The flowmaster race mufflers are usually 1 chamber. Yes they are loud. No they don't really sound like flowmasters IMO.

I went from 100% stock exhaust to flowmaster 40's & dumps. There was a noticeable increase in power & response. Like others, I had the 1600 RPM drone. Not horribly bad but annoying at times. A few months later, I added the longtubes & off-road H. The drone went away & the sound, power & response were improved again.

To the OP, just listen to different exhaust setups & then pick the one you like the sound of best. They'll all help out in the power & sound departments. Don't worry over well this one makes 2 more hp than that one. Check out the mustang exhaust sound boards & find some youtube vids. Just watch out, youtube breeds morons.

if you get the exhaust setup i described, be ready to field questions and take compliments anytime you go anywhere in your mustang or stop at a gas station. LOL!

meh i've read the internet ramblings about straight thru mufflers and xpipes making more power and sounding "exotic". you can have the 3 hp and the "exotic" (read: raspy) exhaust.

Nope, sorry Chuck. Shitty welding.:yes1: MAC even said that on the first set. :thumbsup1: Second set wasn't worth the time, they went in the garbage, and bought a set of FMS.:yes1:

Sweet talon, my friends is fully built and megasquirted, he's put over 5g and 3 years into replacing EVERYTHING on the car and fully rebuilding the motor, capable of EASY 400whp tuned but he doesn't have the time and now he's wanting to sell the car...

And I do agree FoxRod, its all in the "ear of the beholder" lol have to check out lots of sounds and see which ones you like best... If you'd like I'll throw up a video of mine with the flowmaster race mufflers :)
