March Concord Meet-n-Drag @ zMax 3/19/11

Ok folks, zMax is hosting two Saturday Test & Tune's in March, the 12th & 19th. Now I know you love the food and the snappy service at QS&L, but I'm willing to bet you'd be ok if we change venue next month to zMax on the 19th, right??

So here's what we have! The TnT is from 10am to 5pm and it's $5 per person and $20 per vehicle to race. I've spoken with one of the organizers and told him our club is likely to bring 20+ cars with possibly half of them running. As a show of support the organizer is offering us Pit Pass Parking for spectator cars so we can all park together in the staging lane area. On top of that, since we're BRINGING SO MANY CARS he also wants to offer us a discount on entry.

So what do you say? We had a blast at the Farmington Track Day last October...how 'bout double the fun at a track twice as long?? :yes1:

Our TN members are having their meet on the 19th as well and as much as I'd like to avoid that date we're at the mercy of the track's schedule. The good news is there's probably enough distance that we'll see little to no impact on attendance for either. :thumbsup1:

Here's the plan:

We will meet at the Bojangles off Bruton Smith Blvd beside QS&L at 10:30am sharp on Saturday March 19th. We'll hang for 20-25mins until everyone shows, then we'll cruise to zMax together, pay, register and pick up our Pit Pass Parking then roll through the gates and establish our parking area. Note: Putt has volunteered to mark our territory(I'm afraid of what that means!!) Those that can't make it that early can still come as I hope to submit a list of members at the gate so you'll still receive the discount and Pit Pass to catch up with the group. Maybe other's will set up a round two meeting time at Bojangles? It's really up to whatever works for your schedules.

Racers can hop in the staging lanes, make their run(s) and then circle back with the group for some timeslip comparison. Also, while waiting in the staging lanes, members have access to hang with you.

The concessions should be open so you can eat at the track whenever you're ready!

This should really be a lot of fun and I truly hope the club can turnout the numbers I told zMax. There's been complaints in the past about not enough racing events for the club. There's also been complaints about zMax not having enough open TnTs when the weather is better(spring & fall). Well here ya' go...let's kill two birds and bring some SEFB heat!!!

If I remember correctly, tech was more about long pants, closed toe shoes and a helmet. If you're car looks like it'll run 9sec and there's no cage I imagine they'll question it, but otherwise when I tech'd last year it was a 30 sec process. ;)

I've had 2 SHO's over the years.

SHO was rated 220 hp vs the 5.0's 225.

SHO also has more weight to pull.

The Y pipe on these things is one of the biggest power killers that and the Butterflies. No I'm not talking about insects. If you guys don't know about them and would like to learn let me know I will happily show you a picture and describe it to you. :lol1:

93's were only rated that because the rating system changed.

I know more about SHO's than you seem to realize. I've have had the intake off one before. Done several things to them.
I've been down the 1/4 probably 100+ times in a SHO. Even my old automatic 94 SHO ran a best of 15.26 @ 91 mph... A 5spd would be faster long as you can get it off the line decently...which is tough. SO yes.....a stock AOD 5.0 MIGHT be in trouble.

i'm w/ you 5Starr....you have talked mad junk about your ride.........so if you going to talk the talk show up and walk the walk......i'm not hatein on the SHO, my grandpa has 2 a 88 or 89 and a 99 both are quick and the early one is a 5 speed and will run, but you arn't going to have tq to hang w/ the stang off the line and the stang should run off from you at the tree...you just better hope you run him down near the end...but that is just my 2 pennys

Yep. The 89-95's were made with Yamaha, Mazda, and Ford the 96-99's were made with Cosworth bottom ends, Yamaha heads, mazda tranny's, and then ford bodys so a big mutt.

Bc I can't pull up the specs on an 88 kbb doesn't go back that far. It has a 3.2 instead of a 3.0 and a full exhaust system on it. And some 225 Doral SDL's so better traction but not drag radials lol.

well i have some elcheapo tires on it right now, and it never fails to spin on my launch so ive givin up runnin mid 9s at shadyside... didnt know if it mattered in the reaction time

Just touched base with the zMax coordinator again and mentioned we have close to 25 cars that plan to attend. I'm going to email him a list of SCREEN NAMES by Friday afternoon so post up if you're not on the list but plan on coming. That way whether you meet up early at Bojangles or not you're covered! :thumbsup1:

The ticket booth on the far right(Speedway side) as you face the front entrance will be open and only the pits and staging lanes on the that same side of the strip will be used for TnT. Go to the ticket booth, tell them you're with SEFB and give them your screen name. I believe everyone pays the $5 entrance fee and then another $15 if you're racing(discounted from $20). Racers get a Tech Card and everyone is supposed to get a Pit Pass Parking sticker. The parking sticker is what allows everyone to park together so make sure you get that as well. Those with trailers can still park in the pits with the group so no worries there.

The forecast is currently showing 80 and sunny with ZERO chance of precip...so bring your sunscreen pale faces!!! :lol1:

Well even if it's ready to install tomorrow I won't have enough miles on it to put it on a 1/4 mile strip over 100 miles one way from my house. Sorry to say that but it's just not going to happen. Not that I can see.

For those that are wanting to ride up from Greenville SC area, we could meet up at the Citgo on Highway 14 at I85 (exit 56) and leave from there. Prob would need to leave around 8:30-8:40 to make it to Concord NC and meet up with the NC crew.

BTW I am hoping to get the remainder of my transmission parts tomorrow and start assembly on my AOD, so I may end up being able to make a clean pass down Z-Max!! :thumbsup1:

I had a blast today. Met some new guys and saw some old (and ugly) faces too. I got home and counted timeslips. Only ran 8 times in the pickup. I've never felt like such a noob hotlapping it like that. Like a kid in a candy store. I ran a best of 17.340, best mph of 80.33 and best RT of .037. Now to get one of the stangs on the track.

Awesome time today guys and gals. The turnout was awesome, the weather was darn near perfect and the racing was fun. It was great so see all those Foxes out there steadily improving throughout the afternoon. Some of the "rookies" will be wearing those smiles for the next few days I imagine. :yes1:
