View Full Version : Stiff Clutch pedal

I don't know if I am getting old and lazy or my clutch is stiff and no fun to drive.

I believe I put in a King Cobra clutch in 2000. It has a new cable and quadrant in it but the pedal seems to be stiffer than I remember. Is there any clutches out there that have an easy pedal effort? My car just has basic bolt ons and I don't foreseeing that changing anytime soon, so should I just go with a stock clutch? What experiences has everyone have with their clutches and what would you recommend. I am going to change the clutch soon or I am about to do an AOD conversion!!!

Try moving the cable on another loop on the quadrant (if u have a multi loop one). Also get a fire wall adjuster and that should help.

the previous owner of my hatch put in King Cobra.... it was stiff as all git out.... it would loosen up after the car sat stationary and got warm.... then would get hard when the warmth dissipated..... the clutch quad broke one day (factory plastic).... I had a UPR quad and firewall adjustable installed .... what a difference !!! a few weeks later... the King Cobra came out and a HD Ram put in.... so far I'm getting excellent clutch engagement...I haven't had any problems with my set up . I know everyone has opinions and different experiences with clutches and set ups ... but this one has worked for me...... or you may just be gett'n old and feeble :lol1::lol1::lol1: couldn't resist that heheheheh

I do have a quadrant but not with multiple hooks. Also have a firewall adjuster. I think its just the King Cobra. Has anyone had luck with a Centerforce? What would everyone get if they drove their mustang everyday? Maybe its just I am tired of a clutch!

I hate to admit it but my clutch pedal was VERY STIFF in my 4 banger but I thought it was b/c of the zoom clutch, turns out I accidently ran the clutch cable on top of the motor mount instead of under it, it had a HARD bend in it and after I out it on a lift and looked at it I felt very stupid, but its all good.

I have a zoom clutch and it is really easy. I have had many other clutches and I like it the best. It's not to hard or soft.

I might have to take a look at it. My father replaced it before he drove it up here from Fl. and he may have ran it wrong.

Went out there and the cable is ran under the motor mount so thats not it!

Anyone done a T5 to an AOD swap. I have done the opposite a few times on one of my cars and buddies cars but not this way. Any advice on converters for a lightly modded motor with a small shhot of juice?

I'm satisfied with the HD Ram... my 5.0 hatch is a daily driver.... clutch was replaced in May/Jun 08

Remove the cable and check it...pull it from one end to the other and make sure it travels smoothly.....Those cables are not the best know for holding up......If it is tight replace it......However The king cobras are not know for easy pedal effort...IMO they are way to tight for everyday driving.....If you want better pedal effort....run a centerforce DF....I ran those in my car for years, and couldn't ask for anything better:thumbsup1:

So no problems out of the CF? I just didn't want to spend 300 on a clutch kit that is a gimmick. Is it a pretty light pedal? I don't race the car at the track it is mostly driven on the street on nice days so I want a clutch with not much pedal effort. Thanks for all the help.

I agree with Badass1993

Check the cable, mine got harder to push and the cable was just old and had started to frayed and was sticking inside the cable sheath.

King Cobra clutches are stiff.

If the clutch were indeed installed back when you say then you got good usage out of it. The King Cobra is designed to give 40% more grip over stock with about 10% LESS pedal effort. If you are experiencing an issue then the Pressure Plate might be going bad. Most likely the issue you are having is with the adjustable cable. It has probably started to go bad and is binding causing a stiffer pedal.

I have everything you need if you choose to replace this stuff.

Yep I replaced it the summer after I graduated High School. My father and I just replaced the cable and quadrent about a year ago and less than 1k miles.

Trai,

Do you have any other parts for the conversion? What stall is the converter? I can't believe I am thinking of auto!!! If so, I can trade you out for a Jasper T-5 with about 500 miles on it! If I do the conv. I am wanting to put a better valvebody and higher stall.

shifter and converter. see what other parts he has from the swap, like the tv cable and any other parts. I am still weighing out my options at this point though.

got the tv cable and bracket.paid dearly for those 2 parts alone.for all those parts your looking at around 450.00 for it all.
