i have had my 88 gt vert since march and it has 122k on it. I only get 17mpg with a 5 speed. i shift at 2000rpm to help but still cant break 17. It has been stolen 3 times and showed up at my uncles business. this leads me to think it has been driven hard without any care. would a rebuild be right or just an enspection from a mechanic? only mods are exhaust and intake. soon will be a mass air conversion.

Have you done a complete tune up? Plugs, wires, cap & rotor, fuel filter yet?

The only time I have seen 20 MPG, was on the highway with the cruise set on 70, for the whole tank.

Actually if you have 2.73's in the rear aound town mileage will suck, too much load, more load more fuel. Throw some 3.55's in it and see if it gets better. My car gets 17 in town and 23 highway with a 347 and 30lb injectors.

Sounds like something aint right there. I have a custom built all forged 302 with a .544/.544 cam, Systemax, Victor Jr's, LT's and 3 inch dump setup with 3.73's and a 255 pump/30# injectors, and I get 20 or better on the interstate. Since it sounds like the routine maintenance has been covered how about focusing on a compression check, O2's, PCV, checking for small vacuum leaks, etc...

I am going to get a full system check in the next few weeks so maybe it will tell me something i dont know.

No the 3.55's help out a lot. I beat on it all the time. It will go into the crapper when I put the 4.10's in the rear. If I drive like a grandma, wanna race???

Once I get my intake back, so I can put my car together, and have a drivable car again. It's on like donkey kong.:yes1::thumbsup1:

I hope the ARP bolts hold the flywheel to the crank when I dump the clutch at 5.5k with 26x10.5-15's. :sad1:

You: 306, AOD, 4.10's, Good HCI
Me: 347, T-5, 3.55's, MisMatched HCI.

Should be a good race. If I can hook and I don't brake it should be close...

The O/D on those tires is 28 inches, so remember thats going to kill your rear gear a little...

True, the MT's are 26 inches, so that is most likely what I will go with.
